Bobbie
Hello, my name is Bobbie. My animal id is #207121. I am a desexed male brown dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 4 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 8/8/2024.
Bobbie is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Bobbie is beginning to deteriorate due to his length of stay. Bobbie has been social, outgoing, playful, and attention-seeking during his stay. But now he is becoming increasingly stressed in and out of his kennel. When in his kennel, Bobbie is spinning in circles, hypersalivating, while heavily panting. Outside of his kennel, Bobbie has red eyes, unable to settle or focus at times. Medically, Bobbie has dental disease.

He did well in the car, walking through streets, being indoors and interacting with all people. He knows to sit on command, is very well behaved and loves affection. He is very curious and likes to explore new places. He loves treats and will start drooling. We didn't see any signs of resource guarding or dog reactivity. What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! Not only do I pull at heart strings, but I also pull on leash! I will need someone to help me with my leash manners. I don't always like to share my food, toys or bedding with other animals. I would do best in a home with only adult humans. I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some canine body language together! A volunteer writes: Imagine finding this wildly handsome face in an abandoned home! That's how Bobbie was found before being brought to the shelter. While we don't know his past, his recent history is stressful to say the least. But Bobbie is making the best of a bad hand. He steps closer and closer to us, leaning his body in, and swinging his head back as if to make sure we see him. Like we could ever miss that big, smiling noggin! Bobbie clocks in at a cool 82lbs, which some might say is the ideal size. It's been 4 long months since Bobbie was found in that home, and so far he hasn't caught anyone's eye. The stress of shelter life is naturally getting to him. The behavior team takes him out for enrichment sessions, where he's able to sniff and engage naturally outside his kennel, and they note he visibly relaxes after these sessions. But in a busy shelter those times are far and few between. Bobbie needs a real home to enrich his life and love him every day. He's waiting at Queens ACC.

Summary:: Due to Bobbie entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 11/22/24: When off leash at the Care Center Bobbie is introduced to a novel male dog. At the gate Bobbie approaches the gate and uses his muzzle to nudge the gate before offering prey bows. Bobbie begins running up and down the gate. The novel male gives a hard bark at Bobbie before walking away displacement scenting. Due to the novel males discomfort the gate was not opened and a face to face greet was not conducted. 08/17/24: When off leash at the Care Center Bobbie is introduced to a novel female dog. At the gate Bobbie approaches licking his lips. He begins marking. Bobbie confidently trots away. The novel female is moved to the back of the pen to make space for Bobbie to enter. Once in the pen the novel female approaches Bobbie practices avoidance and attempts to make space, the novel female pursues. Bobbie begins to display whale eyes. Bobbie gives a subtle correction and makes space again. Bobbie is leashed and removed from the pen to avoid further stress. Upon exiting Bobbie looks back at the novel female not wanting to leave and demonstrating interest to go back into the pen.
Summary (4):: 12/17/24: Bobbie was standing neutrally at front of kennel as handler approached. He was leashed with ease and walked to the BA room with a loose frame. Bobbie pulled hard towards enrichment items and treats on the floor making it difficult to clip him to a drag leash. Once free to move around the room Bobbie continued to engage with a snuffle mat and was able to focus on finishing a lick mat with cheese. He was social with handlers and highly treat motivated. When attempting to put him back on a slip leash Bobbie pulled hard and panted heavily, tangling himself in the process. He was returned to kennel without issue. 12/13/24 (Trainer Note): Bobbie is standing at the front of the kennel panting moderately as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and pulls moderately to the canine training room. Bobbie allows the handler to attach a drag leash and he engages with mild interest in the enrichment. Bobbie spends several minutes ensuring all cheese is licked off of a lick mat before shaking off. The intensity of his panting and dilation of his pupils have decreased. He is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue.
Summary (5):: 12/9/24 Bobbie is observed spinning incessantly in kennel in the AM, as well as covering his kennel in feces due to his spinning in kennel. 12/07/24 Bobbie is standing with a neutral frame at the front of the kennel as the handler approaches, panting heavily. He is easily leashed, pulling to the behavior room. In the room, another handler does LATTE work with him. After his enrichment, another handler leashes him and returns him to his kennel. 11/30/24 (Trainer Note): Bobbie's behavior remains largely the same, though he pants incessantly and is slower to respond to the "Leave It" cue. Handler allows him more time to engage with the snuffle mat and a lick mat before returning him to kennel without issue. 11/22/24 (Trainer Note): Bobbie is standing at the front of his kennel with a loose body as the handler approaches. A drag leash is placed on him, giving him the freedom to roam. Once in the yard, Bobbie begins to explore at his own pace, sniffing around and eventually relieving himself. The handler offers a variety of toys, but Bobbie shows little enthusiasm for them. He runs over to inspect each toy, picking them up briefly before putting them back down, displaying minimal interest in engaging with play.
