Animal Profile

Bentley

Hello, my name is Bentley. My animal id is #74920. I am a female gray tabby cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 9/5/2019.

Reserved

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Bentley is at risk for behavioral reasons. Bentley has displayed distance increasing behaviors while at the care center and has remained fearful. Bentley would be best suited for placement with an experienced cat adopter. Medically, Bentley previously suffered a possible high rise syndrome, but has since recovered and is apparently healthy.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

I'll need extra help from you to develop into a well-adjusted cat. - I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. - I am looking for a home with a patient person. - I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Bentley has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Bentley seemed stressed during her evaluation. She allows to be petted along the head and back but remains tense with a low body posture. Bentley might need a little more time to adjust to her new home. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Bentley tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
