This animal is not directly available for adoption through ACC and is only available by completing the pre-screener form.Adoption inquiries sent directly to ACC will not receive a response. Pre-Screener Form Meet Chino, a 17-year-old sweetheart who's truly mastered the art of relaxation. This senior boy is a certified couch potato who loves lounging in the living room and keeping his people company. His perfect day includes a quick trip to the yard to do his business, then right back inside for naps and cuddles. Chino is social and affectionate with adults, and he absolutely loves car rides. He knows a few basic cues like "come" and "sit down." However, Chino does have handling sensitivities and has escalated to biting in the past. While his bites have not broken the skin, it's important to understand that he will need an experienced and respectful owner who can read his body language, set clear boundaries, and avoid situations that might make him feel cornered or uncomfortable. For this reason, Chino is not a match for homes with children or other pets, especially cats. He's never been crate trained but is content roaming freely in a quiet home. While he's not big on toys or playtime, his calming presence and loyalty more than make up for it. Chino's former owner described him as cute, sweet, and a loving companion-when he feels safe and respected, he's a joy to be around. He's simply looking for a soft place to land and a human who understands the needs of a senior dog with a bit of a spicy side. If you're a seasoned dog owner ready to give a special senior the peace, patience, and love he deserves, Chino might just be your perfect match. 💛

Summary:: Chino lived with another dog in his previous home. He is reported to alert bark.

Summary (1):: Chino is a social and affectionate male dog with a laid-back, couch-potato personality. He primarily spends his time in the living room and enjoys being around people, though he is not well-suited for homes with children or cats. Chino is not very playful but loves car rides and is responsive to basic cues such as "come" and "sit down." He is not crate trained and has never been crated. While he is walked over five times a day, these outings are brief, usually consisting of letting him into the yard to relieve himself. He walks well on a leash with minimal pulling. Chino is cooperative with grooming and allows family members to bathe and brush him. He eats dry food, specifically Purina Pro Plan. His previous owner appreciated his sweet nature and human-friendly demeanor.

Summary (7):: 6/17: Staff member was able to easily lease Chino and bring him outside to the yard. Once in the yard, he explored on his own and did not approach staff member for any petting. Once session was over, he was easily leashed and brought back to his kennel without any issues 6/14/25: Chino is observed walking with a volunteer. He has loose body language and is walking nicely on leash. Chino comes up to a staff member to greet them, accepting pets, with a wagging tail. Later, in the kennel, Chino is observed lying with a neutral posture. He gets up to greet staff and takes a treat gently.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),No cats,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: NO CHILDREN (UNDER 13) Due to the reported bite history and the reported touch sensitivity we recommend Chino go to an adult only home. NO CATS Due to the reported behavior to the cats in the previous home we recommend Chino go to a home with no cats. PLACE WITH A NEW HOPE PARTNER Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment, the behavior department recommends Chino be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Chino to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Chino to new and unfamiliar situations.

Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression,Anxiety

Potential challenges comments:: HANDLING/TOUCH SENSITIVITY In the previous home it was reported that Chino would snap when held or restrained, or when his collar is touched. It is important to always go slow and give Chino the option to walk away from any social interaction. Chino should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Chino’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Chino may do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. Please see handout on handling/ touch sensitivity. MULTI-BITE HISTORY Chino was reported to have escalated to biting or snapping multiple times in the past. Chino is reported to have snapped attempt to bite people when surprised or when the former owner was approached. He was also reported to have bitten a cat but no information was given. While none of these bites have broken skin we still recommend caution and he will need careful management to avoid future bites. Please see handout on bite history. ANXIETY Chino's owner described him as an anxious dog, but did not give details on how the anxiety manifested. If Frankel displays anxious behavior in his future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving him other things to focus on to alleviate his anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training only should be used. Please see handout on anxiety.
