Animal Profile

Mango Lassi

Hello, my name is Mango Lassi. My animal id is #251865. I am a desexed male tan dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 1 months 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 4/12/2026.

Mango Lassie is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Mango Lasso is behaviorally deteriorating in the kennel despite receiving daily enrichment. He has been observed repeatedly jumping up and down throughout the day, often with all four paws off the floor. At times, he is reluctant to return to his kennel and requires multiple treats to encourage him back inside. Despite these challenges, Mango Lasso is highly social with staff and enjoys spending time with them during borough breaks. Medically, Mango Lassie is apparently healthy.

Mango Lassi was found running alongside a road and is now looking for a calm, patient home where he can learn that the world isn't so overwhelming. He can be a bit unsure at first, but once he starts to feel safe, his softer side begins to show. You might just be his favorite flavor of comfort! My Ideal Home Mango Lassi would do best in a calm adult-only home where he can take things at his own pace. He needs a gentle, predictable environment and people who understand that trust is something he builds slowly but meaningfully. With time, patience, and soft routines, he will really start to blend in and relax. Good with Other Pets? Mango Lassi has shown neutral behavior on leash around other dogs and would benefit from slow, careful introductions if living with another dog. Good with Kids? Mango Lassi is recommended for a home without children under 13 due to his fearful nature and need for a quiet environment. Things to Know Mango Lassi is a sensitive boy who can be nervous in new situations, but he warms up with calm, patient handling and soft encouragement. Once comfortable, he enjoys gentle affection and will lean in for connection in a very sweet, understated way. He does best in a low-stress home where he can build confidence at his own pace. Fun Fact Mango Lassi may start off a little shy, but once he trusts you, he's the sweetest companion.

Summary:: Mango Lassi arrived at the care center as a stray, so his behavior with other dogs is unknown. 5/9/26: Mango Lassi greets a novel female dog off-leash at the care center. Mango Lassi at the gate is neutral bodied, hunches over, and begins to sniff the female who is loose bodied and also sniffing. Mango Lassi offers a play bow and begins to chase the female along the gate. Both dogs greet on leash, and Mango walks up to sniff, performs a chin over, and begins to tense and vocalize/snarl at the female as she disengages. Both dogs are separated and returned to the kennel.

Summary (6):: 6/5/26: Mango lassi was laying down in back of kennel on approach. Got up and came to front of kennel when door was unlocked. Mango Lassi was affiliative and loose with handler, leaning in for pets. Mango responded to commands of sit down and paw, remaining attentive. Handler then worked on stay. Mango lassi was leashed and returned to kennel with no issue. 6/5/26: Mango Lassi is observed to be baulking at the front of his kennel when returning back to his kennel. He does not enter the kennel on his own until multiple handlers toss a bunch of treats inside. 6/3/26: When a staff member approached Mango Lassi's kennel began jumping up and down (all four paws appeared to leave the ground at times) and barked. They stopped for a bit then resumed this behavior. 05/30/26: Noted to jump up towards the top of his kennel repeatedly.

Summary (7):: 05/27/26 (Trainer Note): Mango Lassi is laying down in his kennel as the handler approaches. He stands and comes to the front upon noticing the handler, jumping up once onto the door. Mango Lassi is loose and social with the handler, leaning into contact with a soft body. He is fearful of the mat so the handler abandons attempts to encourage him to step up. Mango Lassi responds readily to sit, down, and paw cues. The handler works with him on fading the lure and increasing reliability. He is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue. 5/21/26: Mago Lassi greeted handler at front of kennel with a loose and wiggly body. He was easily leashed and pulled from kennel. He stopped several times to sniff and investigate his surroundings. While walking Mango Lassi would turn around and look at handler who would then reward him with a treat. Mango Lassi would lightly pull during his walk and walk next to and slightly ahead of handler. He was returned to kennel with no issue. 5/18 & 5/19: Mango Lassi is seen jumping up and barking repeatedly throughout the day even when the room is quiet. 5/9/26 (PG): Mango Lassi was at front of kennel with a neutral body. He was easily leashed and taken to the backyard for playgroup. He started to play with the other dog but got overwhelmed and had to be removed and returned to kennel. 4/25/26 (late entry): Mango Lassi is at the front of his kennel standing with his front paws on the kennel door. He is leashed with ease and brought out on a walk. Throughout the walk, Mango Lassi will explore the surroundings with a soft frame and will occasionally check in with the handler for treats, taking them gently. He will become slightly mouthy at one point but is easily redirected with treats and will then continue sniffing. He is returned to his kennel with no issue.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Kennel presence

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: During Mango Lassi medical exam he is noted to have a tense and whale eye / shaking with tucked tail but tolerant of medical handling / did not escalate. During Mango Lassi behavioral assessment, he is noted to become timid but will warm up to handlers.
