Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Notyette is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. Her owner describe her as a quiet, aloof, and independent cat. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. Medically Notyette has dental disease.

What my friends at ACC say about me: Notyette tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home with adopters who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help her adjust to their new home. A volunteer writes: Notyette may have not yet found her family, but we know they're out there. It might be you, so please let me also share a little more about her. Notyette's been keeping to herself a bit since coming in because Notyette has also yet to find her stride here at the Care Center. As her friend, however, I think we need to consider the whole when we say that. Notyette was rehomed with a neighbor when her guardian passed away and Notyette didn't have a place to go. At eleven years old, a life changing heartbreak combined with a big shift of circumstances has left our friend a bit in her thoughts. In her life before, Notyette was someone who enjoyed doing her own thing and was a big fan of admiring the outdoors from the comfort of a window sill. If you have one you'd be willing to share with Notyette, it would really mean a whole lot to her.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/15/25 PREVIOUS ASSESSMENT: Notyette was in the den, appearing somewhat fearful with large pupils and a hunched body. She quickly began hissing when approached, and when offered treats with a scratcher tool, she hissed hard and then swatted the tool forcefully. Notyette is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Because her previous owner reports she is a nice cat in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet, but is really struggling in the shelter environment. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, home with adopters who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help her adjust to their new home. 9/17/25 Vol Crouched inside den. When offered a feather toy, she hard swatted, then came partway out of den to sniff at the feathers. She kept her body low to the ground, and her eyes were wide and partly dilated. Her whiskers fanned forward while she investigated the toy. She retreated back inside den, and hissed when treats were tossed through kennel door. 9/19/25 Vol Deep in hidey box - could not see her. Put in treat bowl, no movement or reaction. Approached entry with squeeze treat on tool, let rest a little distance from entry - no movement or reaction. Started to remove tool and she stuck her head out to watch, eyes round, ears forward. Let tool rest and she pulled back in. Let tool rest some more and removed. She stuck her head out to watch and pulled back. Ended interaction. She stuck head out to look at treats. I stood nearby, a little sweet talk and she came out to eat a little and then pulled back - still keeping her head out to watch. 9/30/25 Vol Hiding in privacy den. Attempted to give her Squeeze-ups on the clicker but she wasn’t interested. Tried to engage her with the laser and cat dancer but no response. Rolled her toy mouse in catnip and put it in her den. Hissed when I lifted den cover to peak inside. Never came out of the den. 10/3/25 FB32 Hiding in den upon approach, hisses and swats at door when removing den cover. When raises den front door to take a better photo, she skittishly retreats out of the den with her head turned back, eyes wide, and a low body and tail. When pulling away, she retreats back into the den to hide and tolerated a brief pet on the body. She curls up with her face against the wall. Kept interaction short to reduce stress. ---CONTINUED IN GAN---

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate,Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Curious,Timid,Skittish,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Notyette has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

Recommendations comments:: Adult only home due to behavior observed in care center.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Notyette is on top of her den, hesitating for a few moments before coming to the front of the kennel when called to and offered a squeeze up. She eats the squeeze up off of the scratcher tool, but swats and bites at it with low intensity when the tool is pulled out of the kennel, repeating this behavior whenever the squeeze up on the tool is offered and pulled back away. When petting with the assess-a-hand is attempted, she flinches back and swats at it. The assessor sits with her for several minutes, continuing to offer her treats and softly speak to her. Eventually the assessor is able to pet her head and down her back and shoulders with the scratcher tool while Notyette is eating crunchy treats. Notyette tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home with adopters who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help her adjust to their new home.
