Bun Bun
Hello, my name is Bun Bun. My animal id is #236188. I am a desexed male black brown dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 2 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 9/7/2025.
Bun Bun is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. Bun Bun has shown high arousal and difficulty with handling in the care center, frequently trying to push out out of his kennel, jumping repeatedly on handlers, and struggling to settle during walks or training sessions. He has also been reactive to other dogs at a distance. When returning to his kennel, Bun Bun often balks, thrashes, or attempts to bolt back out, requiring coaxing or food lures to secure him safely. Medically, Bun Bun is apparently healthy.

It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children. I am playful and cute! I will need appropriate toys and positive outlets for my energy. Bun Bun is 40 pounds of pure fun. Truly, I don't think I've ever seen a dog zoomie around with such gusto. Show him a toy and you'll see his eyes instantly light up with joy - an infectious, joy that makes him irresistible to be around. Equal to his passion for toys (he is indiscriminate: stuffed toys, balls, and squeaky rubber ones are all fair game) is his love of cuddling up to any human in his line of sight. In between bouts of puppy-like energy (he is, of course, barely a year old and has lots of it), he sidles up for affection, and his body wiggles and tail wags happily when I scratch his back. He has such a bright spirit. Run, don't walk, to meet this sweet, active, happy young boy.

Potential challenges comments:: Anxiety: BunBun is noted to pace, panting and pull his sheet cover in his crate. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Officers were able to leash MMB with ease and said he was friendly. Officers also mention that he growled at a small dog. Addressing this requires desensitization and counter-conditioning techniques. Gradually exposing him to these triggers at a distance while rewarding calm behavior, and using tools like a no-pull harness can help manage his reactivity. Please see the handout on On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration. Strength/leash pulling: Bun Bun is noted in the care center to pull hard on the leash until he honks
