In the behavior room, Sir Ace Junior presents as highly anxious, displaying panting, pacing, and dilated pupils. His previous owner reported that he would lunge at other dogs while on walks. She described him as social with children and shy around strangers, but noted that he will warm up with time. Medically, Sir Ace Junior is being treated for CIRDC. Sir Ace Junior was surrendered to the care center due to a no-pet policy impacting the previous owner. Sir Ace Junior was described by previous owners as a dog with a lot of energy who enjoys long walks and lots of quality time. Sir Ace Junior is also noted by the previous owner to pull hard on the leash, and he can get aroused easily and takes a while to settle down. During his stay in the care center, Sir Ace Junior was observed to hard bark and loudly screech throughout the entire intake. He was noted to be lunging and unable to be redirected by his owner or staff. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and reevaluate his behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Your newly adopted animal is in treatment for an upper respiratory illness. The veterinarian is temporarily waiving this animal from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY until such time as the illness has resolved and the pet has sufficiently recovered. At that time, this animal must come into compliance with the spay/neuter requirements.

Upon intake, Sir Ace Junior was alert and hard barking as well as loudly screeching the entire time while in the lobby and outside in the parking lot. He never settled down, was lunging the whole time, and was unable to be redirected by the owner and staff.

Basic Information:: 2-year-old male dog, lived with previous owner for 2 years.

Previously lived with:: adults and 15 year old child

How is this dog around strangers?: alert barks, takes time to settle down and get familiar.

How is this dog around children?: playful with familiar older children, alert barks at others.

How is this dog around other dogs?: alert barks and lunges, described as eager to interact.

How is this dog around cats?: no experience

Other Notes:: pulls hard on the leash when seeing people/dogs while on walks. can get aroused easily and jump on people with excitement, takes time to settle down. takes a while to stop alert barking, reacts to most things while outside and new things in the home.

For a New Family to Know: has a lot of energy, enjoys long walks and lots of quality time. prefers to be in rooms where there are people around and likes most types of toys/balls. not picky, will eat almost anything and knows command "sit". fully potty trained, loves belly rubs. crate trained, can be in for up to 10 hours.

Summary:: Sir Ace Junior was reported to screech, lunge, and have difficulty refocusing when seeing dogs on leash. Due to these behaviors, he will not receive a handling assessment.

Summary:: According to Sir Ace Junior's previous owner(s), alert barks and lunges, described as eager to interact. 09/08/26 Due to reported reactivity with other dogs, Sir Ace Junior is not a candidate for playgroup.

Summary (7):: 9/10/26: Sir Ace Junior is standing at front of kennel with a neutral body where he is easily leashed and pulled from the kennel. Coming out of kennel he pulled hard and continued to do so until he got outside. Outside he walked next to handler and would lightly pull at times. When he saw another dog he would stop and stare, handler would do a u turn and keep him moving. He was returned to his kennel with no issue 9/7/26: Sir Ace Junior is barking and vocalizing at his kennel door as handler approaches. He tries to shove his snout through the door to quickly exit the kennel as the handler leashes him. Once leashed, he then pulls on the way outside for a walk. On the walk, he would continue to pull ahead while heavy panting. He would hard stare and try to pull towards dogs that were nearby while hard barking and vocalizing. He is unable to be redirected with treats or toys. He pulls on the way back to his kennel and is able to be quickly placed inside. He then begins to vocalize and paw at the door while heavy panting as the handler locks it and walks away. 9/5/26: Sir Ace Junior is standing at the front of his kennel with a wagging tail as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and he then pulls hard on the way outside for a walk. On the walk, he continues to pull hard ahead while heavy panting. He would look up at the handler with widened eyes while heavy panting when the handler to try to call his attention. He would try to pull hard towards dogs nearby while hard staring. He has no interest in treats or toys. He then pulls on the way back to his kennel and baulks when reaching his kennel door. He is able to be muscled into the kennel, and he then quickly spins around and jumps up while vocalizing as the handler quickly unleashes him and locks the door. 9/4/26: When Sir Ace Junior was outside, he was observed to hard bark, screech, and attempt to lunge towards another dog that was several feet away.

Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Sir Ace Junior's fearfulness in the care center, we recommend he is placed with one of our New Hope Partners. Single-Pet Home/Recommend No Dog Parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that have been reported by Sir Ace Junior's previous owner(s), we feel that he should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Sir Ace Junior associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats.

He was noted to be lunging and unable to be redirected by his owner or staff.
