Animal Profile

Raisinet

Hello, my name is Raisinet. My animal id is #244150. I am a male black dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 3 months old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 12/21/2025.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Raisinet is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Rasinet has been escalating to intense leash biting when being returned to his kennel. He bites and pulls leads into the kennel and can be slow to respond to redirection efforts. Rasinet has been social with handlers during interactions, but intermittently shows interest in contact, preferring to engage with toys or eating treats. During his stay with a foster, Raisinet initiated an altercation with another dog after his leash snapped. When trying to separate the dogs, the foster received a small puncture on their finger with a few scratches. When being returned, Raisinet lunged and bit a staff member twice in the chest. Bites did not break skin, but left holes in their shirt. Medically, Raisinet has dermatitis.

Raisinet is noted during his straycation to be very sweet, loves to cuddle, and be as close as possible. In the care center, he is noted to engage with toy with handlers and calming exercises. Due to Raisinet bite incident while in the foster home, the behavior department recommends Raisinet be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Raisinet to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Raisinet to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Raisinet presents with outside of the care centers.

Your newly adopted pet has been diagnosed with dermatitis and the staff veterinarians are issuing a TEMPORARY waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment through to the resolution of the issue. At the time of a full recovery you may choose to have your veterinarian perform the spay/neuter surgery, or make provisions to return the pet to ACC for sterilization.

Bite history:: On 3/9/2026 around 8PM the foster parent and Raisinet were on their evening walk, Raisinet's leash snapped and he ran up to another dog, both dogs got into a scuffle the owner and the foster parent broke up the two dogs. The foster parent sustained a small puncture on her finger and a few scratches. She went to the next morning on 3/10/2026 to treat the wound. The foster parent didn't collect owner information it is unknown if the other dog had any injuries.

Other Notes:: According to Raisinet's previous foster, he has displayed reactivity to other dogs and people while on walks - lunging and barking towards dogs and would jump up and nip if people tried to pet/approach him.

Summary (6):: 3/23/26:(PM) Raisinet is siting in his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ease and is then taken outside for a walk. On the walk, he has a loose body as he would walk ahead of the handler and is comfortable taking treats and receiving pets. He begins to pull hard on the way back to the building. When entering the building, he continues to pull hard and begins to pull while on his hind legs. When reaching his kennel, he quickly goes to leap in but then spins around and grabs the leash before he fully steps into the kennel. He begins tugging at the handler's leash and is able to drop it when the handler offers a raw hide towards his snout. The handler then quickly retrieves the leash, locks the door and ends the interaction. Later on in the evening, an ACS reports to a handler that he was still leash biting once in front of his kennel/hadn't walked into the kennel as yet. But when offered a squeaky ball, he released and followed the ball into his kennel. (AM): ACS reports that when returning Raisinet to the kennel, he immediately latches onto their lead and pulls it into the kennel. They were unable to redirect him with treats or toys that they had offered.

Summary (7):: 03/12/26: Raisinet is observed to race back and forth along shoreline kennel and will screech and bound off of kennel doors. 01/20/26 (Trainer Note): Raisinet is standing in his kennel barking as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and pulls moderately to the canine training room. Raisinet is loose and social with handlers, though he shows minimal interest in contact. He picks up toys and bounces around the room with them, bouncing up to the handler and then bouncing away. He entertains himself for several minutes. The handler then works with him on the LATTE enrichment game. He is able to orient towards the handler and breathe in between items. Raisinet is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue. 01/13/26: Raisinet is standing in her kennel and allows the handler to leash her with ease. She is escorted to the play yard for enrichment, where a drag leash is placed on her. Raisinet explores the yard and interacts with a tennis ball, standing over it and mouthing it. The handler tosses treats to the ground to redirect her, then throws the ball, which Raisinet retrieves. She remains near the handler for periods of time and will chases bird shadows flying overhead. When the session is complete, Raisinet is returned to the Care Center and placed back in her kennel safely without any issues. 12/26/25: Raisinet is standing in his kennel as handler approaches. He is eager to come out and is quickly able to be leashed. He is then taken to the behavior room for his assessment. In the room, he is comfortable approaching the handler with a loose body and would jump up to receive treats. Please see behavior assessment notes for more details. He is able to return back to his kennel with no issues.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Single-pet home,Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): We recommend that Raisinet be placed in an adult-only home at this time. SINGLE-PET HOME/RECOMMEND NO DOG PARKS: Due to the concerning incident that occurred while in foster, we feel that Raisinet should not visit dog parks and be the only resident dog. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Raisinet associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Raisinet bite history while in the foster home, the behavior department recommends Raisinet be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home.

Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression,Low threshold for arousal,Bite history (human),Bite history (dog)

Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control: Raisinet is noted to jump on the handler often. Training should focus on teaching alternative greeting behaviors, reinforcing calm responses, and implementing consistent management strategies to reduce jumping. Please see the handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Raisinet is noted to take treats roughly. This behavior suggests a need for training that emphasizes gentle treat-taking, using hand-feeding exercises and reinforcing calm, controlled behavior. Please see the handout on Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition. Low threshold for arousal/Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: During intake the staff memeber tossed treats near him when they entered the room and got the slip lead on him while he was sniffing around. He then jumped up on the staff member a few times to grab the treat pouch (which fell on the ground) and then he jumped up to bite towards the staff member chest twice. He did not seem interested in any of the treats on the ground at that point and seemed a fixated on the staff member. He left some holes in on their shirt but no broken skin. Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression/Bite history (human)/Bite history (dog): The foster parent and Raisinet were on their evening walk, Raisinet's leash snapped and he ran up to another dog, both dogs got into a scuffle the owner and the foster parent broke up the two dogs. The foster parent sustained a small puncture on their finger and a few scratches. They went to Urgent Care the next morning to treat the wound. The foster parent didn't collect owner information it is unknown if the other dog had any injuries.
