Animal Profile

Nicholas

Hello, my name is Nicholas. My animal id is #216481. I am a male black cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 5 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 12/11/2024.

Nicholas has developed a severe URI while in shelter. He is not eating and is on injectable and oral medication to try to support him through this infection. Nicholas needs a lower stress environment and more personal attention in order to heal.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Nicholas has developed a severe URI while in shelter. He is not eating and is on injectable and oral medication to try to support him through this infection. Nicholas needs a lower stress environment and more personal attention in order to heal. What my friends at ACC say about me: Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets. A volunteer writes: Nicholas was a sweet boy with a vibrant personality. He loved getting pets around his neck, head and chin. He was living in a deli but now his deli days are over. He can help you make a sandwich, as long as you tip him with some scraps. Nicholas' tail swished back and forth as I pet him but he did not appear to get overstimulated during my interaction. I let him call the shots and come to me when he wanted pets, which seemed to be constantly! Come pick up your sous chef for this holiday season!

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Nicholas was resting with his legs extended upon approach, alert with soft eyes but wary of sudden noises in the room. He slowly stood and engaged with the assessor, head-bunting the hand and allowing back strokes. His body was loose, with his tail lying low. He hissed throughout the assessment scanning the room. During pick-up, he low-grumbled but continued to tolerate attention once placed back down. Nicholas interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is showing behavior appropriate for cat parents with either an average amount of cat experience and demonstrate a basic understanding of typical cat behavior.
