Mimi
Hello, my name is Mimi. My animal id is #208495. I am a female gray tabby cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 3 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 9/5/2024, with the surrender reason stated as person health - age-related.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.
Mimi is at risk due to medical and behavioral reasons. She has not been eating consistently while in shelter, likely secondary to high FAS. She has now developed a moderate upper respiratory infection that necessitates injectable antibiotics and supportive care, which further exacerbate her FAS. She will need continued antibiotic therapy and supportive care with placement, as well as a quiet place to decompress. Behaviorally, Mimi is fearful and prefers to hide in her den, though she was reported to be friendly and outgoing in a home environment.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: I am looking for a home with a patient person. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Mimi is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Because her previous owner reports she is friendly and outgoing in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet, but is really struggling in the shelter environment. This cat is suitable for adopters with previous cat experience who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help her adjust to their new home.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/12/24 FB79 Inside her den out of sight, Mimi hisses when she hears me open her kennel door and she continues to harshly hiss when i lift the den cover for a better view. With a tense body, wide/dilated eyes and flat ears Mimi hisses and spits when treats are tossed near her den door. I leave some toys with catnip and respect her space. 9/17/24 FB1261 In cat den upon approach, completely hidden from view. She continuously hisses when offered treats and I keep the interaction brief today to reduce stress. Needs more time. 9/19/24 FB58 In den and hisses, beginning to low growl when she hears the cage door open. As I slowly offer the scratcher tool at the den portal opening (not introducing it into the den), she begins to stress vocalize and hisses when the den cover is removed. She is tolerant of touch with the tool but remains tense and frozen and generally uncomfortable with the interaction. 9/24/24 FB58 In her den and still stress vocalizes/yowls as I slowly push he gaba tray and tray with treats closer to her portal opening. I don't want to push her or stress her out to much and instead place a cage cover on her cage to try and create a more comfortable environment. 10/5/24 FB79 Mimi is inside her den, grumbling as i open her kennel door; she hisses and lunges in the den when she sees me more the scratcher tool near her den opening in attempt to bring it close to pet. She continues to hiss and growl/grumble when the tool is near her as well as when i run it back her back. I leave some treats and end the interaction. 10/9/24 FB58 In her den and hidden from view - she hisses and low growls when the cage door is opened. I place a tray with squeeze up down near the den opening but she continues to not show interest in high value treats. Due to continued reports of her not eat, I turn her den so the side portal is facing the front, and she sits staring at me with a slightly tense face and ears forward, pupils only slightly dilated. She continues to sit there watching me as I lightly toss treats, only hissing a few times but not growling and appears to remain much more calm throughout - slow blinks at me multiple times. Seems she is more comfortable when she can see what is approaching her and isn't startled by interactions, hopefully with this new set up and not being able to see people walking past in the hallway, she will be able to settle down a little and begin to eat.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 4
RECOMMENDATIONS:: No young children
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Inside her den out of sight, Mimi begins to low grumble when she hears the assessor approach and start to speak softly; she hisses harshly and is pressed towards the back of her den with wide/dilated eyes when the den cover is lifted for a better view. She isn't interested in any treats that are tossed near her den opening and continues to low growl/grumble. When the assess-a-hand is slowly introduced Mimi harshly hisses and lunges forward - she continues to low growl/grumble as she closely watches the tool for any movement and when the tool is brought closer in attempt to pet she hisses and harshly swats. Mimi very briefly tolerates pets on her head and down her back before she hisses and begins to strike the tool multiple times. Pick up was not attempted at this time due to not being able to be coaxed out of den. Mimi is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling.
