Hello, my name is Hollis. My animal id is #260775. I am a male tan dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 7/26/2026.
Hollis is at risk due to behavioral reasons. When Hollis initially arrived at the care center, he was observed to be loose and wiggly. Despite our best efforts at keeping Hollis comfortable while in care, he has begun to show signs of kennel stress. He has been reported to bite the kennel doorknob and walls when in kennel. Hollis has been known to be affectionate with handlers. Medically, Hollis is finishing being treated for CIRDC though otherwise is apparently healthy.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I am playful and cute! I will need daily physical activity to keep me healthy and happy!

Hollis was found hanging by her teeth on the bars that separate her and her neighbor's kennels. Starting 200mg trazodone PO BID indefinitely

Hollis was seen chewing on the walls after behavior medications had been administered in the morning. Increasing clonidine to 0.75mg PO BID indefinitely

Summary (7):: 08/08/26: Hollis was observed consistently scraping his teeth on the kennel wall. When staff went to get his attention, he stopped, started panting hard, and then barked. When staff walked away, Hollis resumed scraping his teeth on the kennel wall. 8/7/26 (PM): Hollis is observed to gnaw on the door knob in his kennel; the room is slightly active. 8/7/26: Hollis was at front of kennel with a neutral body where he was easily leashed and taken for a street walk. He pulled hard coming out of kennel and continued for duration of walk. When he saw a dog on the street he would stop and hard stare, handler was able to redirect by applying leash pressure and giving treats. He was returned to kennel with no issue. 8/6/26: Hollis is observed to scrap his teeth against the wall as the room is active. 8/3/26: It is reported that Hollis is scraping their teeth against the glass of the kennel door. 8/1/26: It is reported by staff that Hollis is hanging by her teeth on the bars that separate her kennel from her neighbor. 7/29/26: Hollis is loose and wiggly in his kennel as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and lead to the street. He pulls hard. He ignores passersby. He pulls moderately towards another dog with his hackles raised and vocalizing (whining). He takes treats and allows pets. He is brought back to the assessment room (see notes) and returned to kennel with ease.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Hollis so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

Potential challenges comments:: On Leash Reactivity: Hollis is observed to pull towards other dogs with raised hackles and will whine. Hollis will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior.
