I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/18/2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving - no pets allowed.

Lady Steel is a geriatric gal with some underlying medical conditions that an adopter should be prepared to manage. She has arthritis and allergies that could benefit from additional follow up with a veterinarian. We recommend that she go to an experienced dog home.

A volunteer writes: Her name sounds fit for a superhero, and while petite, senior Lady Steel may not fit the typical profile. When it comes to courage and heart, she's up there with the best. Her powers include the ability to draw a crowd with just one look, stroll through the park like she owns it, give incredibly soft kisses, and amble downstairs with puppy-like ease. As for bravery, this little gal puts the big boys to shame! After losing literally everything she's ever known--her younger brother Max, the human brother she grew up alongside, and a safe, familiar home--Lady Steel still soldiers on with hopeful eyes and eagerly nudges the door of her den the moment I approach. She knows how to sit, stay, come here, give paw, and roll over on command. She walks beautifully on leash, too. Shy but social, easy to handle and easy to love, Lady Steel has but one nemesis in all the world...cats! She prefers to chase them, so no felines will be making the cut in her squad, thank you very much. Lady Steel's former owner described her as friendly, affectionate, and independent, and when asked to share their favorite thing about her, they offered this simple answer that truly says it all: what a good dog she has been. Lady Steel has a lifetime of love and loyalty under her belt already, and so much still to give to a new family. Will you step up and be the hero she deserves?

DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: reported around 14 years old - exam is consistent with a senior dog Microchip noted on Intake? Scanned neg - MC placed during exam Microchip Number (If Applicable): 981020023147713 History : Came in with 1 other dog. Hx allergies and pt was on cephalexin 500 mg PO BID - Rx is from 8/18/17, but there are 7 caps left in the bottle. Pt also occasionally "loses mobility in her hind legs". Subjective: Alert, slightly tense Observed Behavior - Allows handling Evidence of Cruelty seen - None Evidence of Trauma seen - None Objective BAR, BCS 5/9, MMs pink and moist EENT: AD moderate erythema, lichenification, yellow discharge. AS clean, no erythema. Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Moderate staining PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Female, small nipples and vulva, spay scar visible on skin MSI: Patchy alopecia on flanks, erythema, some scabs. Long nails. Thickened stifles with moderate crepitus. CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: 1. Otitis externa AD only - R/O allergies 2. Alopecia and erythema - R/O allergies 3. Arthritis palpable in stifles Prognosis: Fair Plan: 1. Benadryl 37.5 mg PO BID x10 days 2. Upon intake, Lady had her head down and was whining for her owner. Lady allowed being collared and walked well on a leash. Lady allowed all handling.

Basic Information:: Lady is a 14 year old spayed large breed dog that the owner got from a friend when she was a puppy. The owner is surrendering because she is moving into a residence where they do not allow pets. Lady's vet visit was a few months ago for allergies.

How is this dog around strangers?: Lady is described as shy around strangers, she can sometimes growl at strangers on the street.
How is this dog around children?: Lady grew up with a child and she is relaxed and respectful with him, she always plays gentle with him.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Lady has lived with another dog and she is relaxed and playful with him.
How is this dog around cats?: Lady will growl and try to chase cats.
Resource guarding:: Lady is not bothered if her food bowl is touched while she eats or if a treat or toy is taken from her.

Other Notes:: Lady barks too much at home sometimes. Lady is nervous during fireworks and loud noises so she will bark. Lady is not bothered if she is taken off furniture, restrained, disturbed while she sleeps, bathed, or brushed. The owner has never trimmed Lady's nails. Lady barks when the doorbell rings.

For a New Family to Know: Lady is described as friendly, affectionate, and independent. The owner's favorite thing about Lady is how much of a good dog she has been. Lady's favorite thing to do is play with balls. Lady likes to stay in a favorite spot when the owner is home. Lady likes to play fetch and tug. Lady has been kept mostly indoors. Lady sleeps on a dog bed with her brother, Max. Lady is fed 1 cup of Natural Balance dry food and 1/2 a can of the wet food a day. Lady has recently started having some accidents in the house, so the owner will put down wee-wee pads and she will use them. When taken outside, Lady uses any surface. Lady knows how to sit, stay, come here, give paw, and roll over on command. For exercise, Lady goes on off leash walks. On a leash, Lady does not pull. Lady wanders when off leash and comes back when she finishes using the bathroom.
