Potential challenges: : Fearful
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: Upon intake, Zilia was very friendly with counselors but shy and timid. Client was in a rush to leave and left Zilia with counselors in the dog waiting room. Upon bringing Zilia back, he completely shut down, pancaking on the floor. While doing so, he began whale eyeing counselors with a high raised tail. Counselors then double roped for precaution. Counselors encouraged Zilia to walk down the hallway but upon bringing Zilia down the hallway, he began thrashing and gator rolling every time counselors attempted to direct him.Training should emphasize slow, gentle interactions, reinforcing voluntary engagement, and building confidence through predictable, low-stress handling routines. Please see the handout on the decompression period.
