Milo
Hello, my name is Milo. My animal id is #86951. I am a desexed male white dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/24/2020, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.
Milo is at risk for behavioral reasons. Milo has a bite history and has also shown to resource guard. Milo would be best suited for placement with a new hope partner that can provide the necessary behavior modification. Medically, Milo seems healthy.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...
A staff member writes "Who knew a dog so small could jump so high? Little Milo is full of energy and show it by the leaping jumps he takes up in the air. Milo also loves his treats and food will likely be the way to the heart of this pup who can be a little fearful when he doesn't know you. If you have some treats to give him and some room for him to run and jump, Milo might be perfect for you!"

He bit the owner's hand and held on until she was able to pry his mouth open. The bite resulted in broken skin. The second bite was also to the owner when she attempted to take him out of his kennel. She out her hand into the kennel and he bit her hand, resulting in broken skin.

Summary:: Milo is reported to not be good with strangers, barking and growling at them, and has bitten the previous owner twice. Since intake to the care center, he growls and barks when handlers approach his kennel, and ignores handlers when taken out. When removed from his kennel for a handling assessment, Milo eats treats that are tossed to him but does not approach handlers or solicit attention. When handlers attempt to call him over, he pulls away and ignores them, allowing for no handling. Due to this behavior, as well as Milo's reported behavior towards unfamiliar people and his bite history, he is not a safe candidate for a handling assessment.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),No cats,Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Milo is reported to not be good with strangers, barking and growling at them, and has bitten the previous owner twice. Due to this behavior, we recommend an adult-only home. No cats: Milo's previous owner states that he is not good with cats and has bitten them in the past. We recommend a home without cats. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Milo's bite history and reported behavior towards his owner, owner's family, and unfamiliar people, we recommend Milo be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Milo to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing him to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Milo presents with outside of the care centers.
