Rory

Hello, my name is Rory. My animal id is #224589. I am a female orange tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 4/14/2025.

Rory is on the at-risk list for medical concerns. She is an underweight, senior cat with suspected kidney disease. She will need follow up vet care with placement. Behaviorally, she allows handling and is very sweet.

It is the policy of ACC not to perform surgery on any animal over the age of 8-10 years due to the higher risks incurred in a shelter setting. The veterinarian is hereby issuing a permanent spay/neuter waiver, from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY due to the estimated age of this animal. ACC does recommend you consult with your veterinarian to determine if surgical sterilization is appropriate.

Behavior Condition: 1. Green

Upon intake, cat allowed staff to pick up, collar, and scan for microchip while leaning into pets.

KNOWN HISTORY:: Rory was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on her behavior history in a home environment.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Sweet,Affectionate,People oriented,Easy going,Curious

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 1

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Rory was lying in her cat den as the assessor approached, body and face completely hidden from view. Rory did not respond when spoken to or as the kennel door opened. When the assessor lifted Rory's den cover she was able to see that Rory's body and face was tense, her feet and tail tucked and her eyes wide. Rory tolerated petting from within the den while turning her head to watch the scratcher tool and remaining otherwise still and tense. Rory shows no signs of escalating further and pick up was not attempted at this time to reduce stress. 4/18/25 Rory was in the pre-exam room yesterday, which is much louder with a higher amount of foot traffic. Today when Rory interacted with the assessor in the more peaceful feline ICU, she allowed all petting and handling. Rory was in her cat den as the assessor approached, body and face relaxed and ears forward. Rory made eye contact with a soft expression when spoken to and she remained calm as the kennel door opened. Rory allowed petting along her head and body while leaning in, purring like a pigeon and kneading with one paw. Rory could not be coaxed out of her den however she showed no signs of escalation when pressure was applied to her belly. Rory interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. This cat is suitable for any level of adopter experience.
