What my friends at ACC say about me: I am excitable and energetic! I will need positive outlets for my energy! I'm ready to learn! I need a patient person who has the time to work on training with me. I would do best in a home without very tiny humans, although I could be open to older human children once I meet them. I love getting pets and - you guessed it - snuggles! I need a home without cats or small animals.

Summary:: 11/25/25: Seven is reactive towards dogs in the pen as he passes by. However, when greeting them at the gate he is neutral bodied with soft wagging tail. He then disengages and reapproaches, remaining neutral. PREVIOUS STAY: Due to Seven entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 09/15/24 Seven is introduced to a novel female greeter dog while off leash at the care center. Seven greets the greeter dog with a soft frame and an excessive wagging tail. Seven is taken to greet the greeter dog face-to-face. Seven vocalizes with a loose, wiggly frame as he gently approaches the greeter dog, sniffing their genitals. They will exchange play bows as well as offer each other bounces before engaging in chase play. They will trade off body contact and continue chase play. Due to what appears to be discomfort from the greeter dogs' genitals, Seven is moved away to reduce any stress the greeter dog may have. Seven remains soft and wiggly as he is returned to kennel.

Summary (5):: 11/25/25 (For evening walk): Seven is initially quiet when handler enters room. Seven's kennel is notably soiled with feces spread on floor and kennel door. Seven stands on hindlegs front paws on kennel door, begins high-pitch barking. When attempting to leash, Seven grabs hold of the leash, pulls into kennel. He does stop when a squeaker sound is used. Using a squeaker to distract him, Seven is easily leashed. Seven pulls hard out of kennel, once on sidewalk Seven walks with mild leash, is loose leash at times. Seven is neutral bodied, takes treats offered by handler. Seven relieves himself, walks around block. Seven checks in with handler for verbal cues, jumps up toward hand holding treat in once instance but is able to be cued into a sit. Seven walks back to MACC and re-enters kennel without issue. Takes treats offered through kennel door.

Summary (6):: 11/23/25: Seven is at the front of the kennel with a soft body. Handler sprays cheese on the door. Seven licks up the cheese as the leash is placed on him over the back of the head. Seven is taken out of the kennel and pulls moderately. He is brought to the street where he walks besides the handler with a loose leash and relieves himself a few times. Handler occasionally scatters treats as they walk and Seven goes after them to eat them. Seven is then walked back to the shelter and sees a familiar handler. He greets the handler with a soft body and jumps on them socially. After he is walked back to the shelter and returned to his kennel without issue. 11/22/25: Seven is at the front of his kennel heavily panting and vocalizing towards the handler. He would begin to spin in his kennel and jump onto the kennel bars as handler goes to unlock the kennel. As handler is attempting to place the lock on his bars, he would begin to snap at the handlers fingers and is redirected using a treat. Shortly after, handler attempts to leash and Seven would slightly mouth the leash. This behavior was easily redirected using a treat lure. Once Seven is leashed he is removed from kennel and kept on a short and tight leash out of the room as he has a mild pull forward. He would watch the kennels with a tense body and bark towards them as he's exiting. Seven is then taken to the yard for a walk, where he would continue to pull hard ahead of the handler. While in the pen he would dart around on the handlers leash and begin to jump onto them, as Seven would spot dogs he would become tense-bodied with a stiff tail and raised hackles. Handler continuously has to pull Seven away to redirect his attention, he would continue to fixate on the passing dogs. While in the pen, Seven would continue to pace around and shortly after is easily clipped and returned back inside where he would spot dogs in the hallway and begin to bark and pull towards them. Shortly after, he is then muscled back to his kennel. 11/21/25: Seven is observed to come out of the kennel intensely, he would begin to kennel fight then turn towards the handler and begin to jump up to snap at their hand. While out in the yard, he is heavily panting while watching dogs with a tense body. He would relieve himself and begin to pace back and forth in the pen. Shortly after, he is easily returned back to his kennel. As the leash is being removed, he would attempt to snap at the handlers again. Interaction was then ended and leash was safely removed.

Summary (7):: 11/20/25: Seven is at front of his kennel with a loose body,l; he then jumps on the kennel door and barks at the handler. As the handler is about to open the kennel door, Seven air bites when he sees the handler’s leash’s. The handler then feeds him treats and uses them as a lure as they leash him. Once he’s leashed, the handler brings him out the room. While walking out the building, Seven barks and pulls towards a dog that’s walked past him. He relives himself once outside. On the street, Seven walks with no leash tension; he has no interest in passersby, and when he sees dogs, he stares at them until they’re out of sight. The handler tosses treats and pets Seven, which he allows. Upon entering the building, Seven barks and attempts to pull towards a dog that’s walked past. The handler is able to pull him away. They clip their leash and easily returns Seven to his kennel. 11/15/25 (For Assessment): Seven is laying down, quiet soft body on kuranda bed as handler approaches becomes loose bodied. Seven approaches kennel door as handler unlocks door. Seven is easily leashed, exits kennel with mild pulling, mostly loose leash, loose body. Seven becomes wiggly when treats are offered on sidewalk, sits before being prompted as handler raises hand with treats. Seven is social with handler, check in visually when verbally cued. Seven walks back to MACC, sees two SMBs approximately 20 feet from entrance, he looks very briefly, maintains neutral body and is easily verbally cued away. Seven walks back to office, approaches staff in office with loose body, takes treats. (See assessment for details.) Upon completing assessment he is re-leashed, is walked back to kennel. He baulks briefly outside of kennel, follows treat trail into kennel easily. 09/15/24: Seven is sitting at the front of kennel with a loose body as handler approaches. He is leashed with ease and pulls hard out to the play yard for gate greets (see Dog-Dog Summary for further details). After interaction, Seven pulls hard back to Care Center and returns to kennel safely. 09/11/24: Seven is leash with ease and brought to the assessment room where a drag leash is placed on him and he's free to roam the room. Seven is super loose and wiggly while he's in the CB room and will allow handling. Seven will be brought back to his kennel safely with no issues.

Date of initial:: 9/10/2024

Summary:: High energy, wagging tail and seeking affection, very gentle and treat-motivated

ENERGY LEVEL:: Seven is described as active and enthusiastic. He will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend only force-free, reward-based training techniques for Seven.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),No cats,Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to on leash reactivity with the risk of redirection we recommend a home with no children. No Cats: Due to hard barking, growling, lunging and snapping at cats we recommend a home with no cats. No Dog Parks: Due to the risk for redirection we recommend no trips to the dog park. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration

Potential challenges comments:: Basic manners/poor impulse control- Seven display high level of jumping.These behaviors suggest a need for consistent training to improve his manners and impulse control. Using positive reinforcement and redirection will help manage these behaviors effectively. Please see handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration- Seven pulls towards dogs during walks. While in the kennel room Seven is obsvered to kennel fight and then turn towards the handlers and snap at their hand. After being returned to kennel Seven again snaps at handlers. Seven will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior. Please see handout on On Leash Reactivity and Barrier Frustration.
