Basic Information:: Rody is about 9 years old and was brought in as a stray. He has not been to the vet as of yet and has no apparent medical concerns.

Date of intake:: 6/28/2019

Spay/Neuter status:: Yes

Means of surrender (length of time in previous home):: Stray, no known history

Date of assessment:: 7/1/2019

Summary:: Rody remains highly uncomfortable in the care center, remaining wary upon approach and contact. He has been observed to growl when attempts to interact are made, for these reasons, we feel Rody is not an appropriate candidate for an assessment at this time.

Summary:: Rody was surrender as a stray so his past behavior with other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Centers, Rody keeps to himself as he wanders in a group of small male and female dogs. He is tolerant of their face to face greetings.

Date of intake:: 6/28/2019

Summary:: Snapped when head was touched, whale eyed

Date of initial:: 6/29/2019

Summary:: Nervous, tense, growling, whale eyed; allowed all handling when muzzled

ENERGY LEVEL:: Rody remains fearful in the care center, we cannot be certain of his energy level in a future home environment.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children: Because Rody remains highly fearful, we feel he would be best set up to succeed in an adult only home environment. Place with a New Hope partner: Rody remains extremely fearful in the care center and continues to remain challenging to handle at times for most caretakers. At this time, we feel Rody may be best set up to succeed if placed with an experienced rescue partner who can allow him to acclimate and decompress before reassessing his behavior in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training only is advised.

Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression

Potential challenges comments:: Rody has escalated to growling and snapping upon approach or when attempts to interact are made, please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression.
