Hello, my name is Charlie. My animal id is #255064. I am a desexed female torbie cat at the Staten Island Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 12 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 7/29/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.
Charlie is on the at-risk list due to medical concerns. Charlie is a sweet senior kitty who was surrendered to the shelter as a recently diagnosed diabetic. She is currently being managed with Lantus insulin injections twice daily. Charlie also has signs of osteoarthritis. She will need long term follow up care for the management of diabetes and comfort care. Behaviorally, Charlie is friendly, outgoing, and allows all medical handling.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: 12+ years Microchip noted on Intake? Negative Scan History: O/S. Recently diagnosed diabetic. Lantus (Glargine) insulin started at 2U BID. Fructosamine elevated (558) at recheck. Insulin increased to 3U in the am and 2U in the pm 7/26/26. Surrendered with Friskies diet. Subjective: BARH Observed Behavior - Friendly, calm, allowed handling with minimal restraint Is there evidence of suspected cruelty? No Objective BCS 3/9 EENT: Eyes clear, OU: iris atrophy, ears clean, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Mild tartar and gingivitis, missing 104, 404, limited oral exam PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupneic ABD: Non-painful, no masses palpated U/G: F/S, spay scar noted MSI: Ambulatory x 4, decreased ROM hips, stifle, shoulders, generalized muscle loss, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, dry dull hair coat previously shaved due to mats CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: -Diabetic -Elevated Fructosamine r/out unregulated vs Somogyi effect -Underweight -Dental disease -Muscle loss -Osteoarthritis Prognosis: Fair-Guarded Plan: -Lantus 1U q24h. Charlie purrs and leans into all pets. The handler picks her up, holds her for a few seconds, and then places her back down. She again nudges her head against the handlers hand. Charlie is given more pets and she continues to purr. Charlie interacts with the assessor, solicits attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. This cat is suitable for any level of adopter experience.
