Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow

KNOWN HISTORY:: Maxi was brought in without information on her behavior history or tendencies in a home environment.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 02/25/18 Scared, tries to flee

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 02/25/18 Lying in litterbox with a flat, tense body. Eyes are wide, whites of eyes are visible. Tolerates petting along head and body while remaining very still and turning head slowly to watch the bear-claw. Nervous, needs more time to adjust. 02/27/18 Lying in back of kennel with a flat, tense body. Flattens ears when spoken to and raises head as cage door opens. Not interested in treats at the moment. Nervous, needs some time to adjust. 02/28/18 Lying in back of kennel, body flat and tense. Tolerates petting along head and body while leaning away from my hand and flattening ears. Avoids eye contact. I could not offer her treats because she was due for surgery today. Needs time to adjust today. 03/1/18 Lying in back of kennel with a flat, tense body. Raises head and makes eye contact when spoken to, face tense and whiskers pulled back. Flinches when I place treats in front of her. Doesn’t eat them in front of me, may be too nervous and focused on environment. Needs time to adjust.

Cage Condition:: Cage is slightly re-arranged

Reaction to assessor:: Maxi was crouched and hiding in the back of kennel, with wide eyes focused on the assessor.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Maxi turns her head away and shrinks her body when the assessor tries to coax her forward.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Maxi remains tense and alert.

Reaction to touch:: Maxi lip licks and remains completely motionless as the assessor extends his hand out. He closes his eyes when touched on his head and tolerates slow, gentle petting along his body. His body tenses up and inches away to the other side of the kennel when he's done interacting.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Maxi has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and may dislike certain types of handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experienced, adult only

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

RECOMMENDATIONS:: None

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Maxi tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
