Animal Profile

Clover

Hello, my name is Clover. My animal id is #258785. I am a male brown dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 3 months 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 7/2/2026.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Clover is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns in his previous home. In the home, Clover displayed significant fearful and defensive behavior shortly after adoption. On his first night in the home, he growled before biting a child on the hand, causing a puncture wound/breaking skin. He was also reported to have bitten two other children, causing bruising without breaking skin, and reportedly bit a total of four times during his time in the home. Clover in the care center has been comfortable with staff, and enjoys going on his walks. Medically, Clover has CIRDC, matted, emaciated and has diarrhea.

Clover in the care center has been comfortable with staff, and enjoys going on his walks. Medically, Clover has CIRDC, matted, emaciated and has diarrhea. Clover was surrendered as a stray, so his past behavior in a home environment is mostly unknown. The caretaker had Clover in the home for 1 day after his rehoming. Clover's original owners did not report any behavioral or medical concerns and previously lived with 5 children. After entering the caretaker's home, the youngest child approached Clover excitedly, and Clover began fowling before he bit the child on the right hand, drawing blood and leaving a puncture. Clover was reported to then retreat but would charge at anyone in the home who approached him. Clover was reported to have bitten the other 2 older children in the home and left bruising but no broken skin. During his stay in care, Clover has been fearful but does begin to approach handlers when given a slow approach with treats. He had briefly solicited attention from the assessor during his handling assessment. Due to Clover's behavior concerns in the caretaker's home, we recommend for Clover be placed in an adult-only home through a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Summary (7):: 7/13: Clover is curled up in his kennel when a handler approaches. He stands but is reluctant to come to the front of his kennel. He offers low tail wags and sniffs treats that are offered as the handler leashes him. The handler notices him limping, so he is brought to the behavior office to keep the distance short.
