London
Hello, my name is London. My animal id is #226868. I am a female gray dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 6 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 9/19/2025, with the surrender reason stated as animal health - cannot afford vet bill.
London is on the at-risk list for medical concerns. London is a young adult brachycephalic dog with a grade 4/6 heart murmur. She seems to be having difficulty emptying her bladder fully when she is urinating. London also has chronic ear and skin issues. London needs further workup like sedate radiographs and an echocardiogram which we cannot provide in shelter. London is such a sweetheart who is looking for a more supportive environment for healing.

Your newly adopted pet has a GRADE 4 HEART MURMUR and the staff veterinarians are issuing a PERMANENT waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. ACC does not have the facility to safely sterilize your pet with his/her current condition. However, your veterinarian will provide consultation on whether this procedure can or should be performed under their supervision. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment and proper oversight of your pet's health. All costs for follow up care and subsequent surgery is at the expense of the adopter.

London doesn't greet, avoiding the gate as she displaces, scenting around the pen. London is tense, displaying a muscular frame and high pointed tail. A staff member exits the building and she approaches them with a soft body and wagging tail. She allows petting on her head and back without issue. London is slowly walked back to the assessment room. She relieves herself in the hallway. London greets the assessor with a soft body and wagging tail. She is easily collared, after her assessment, she plops down and solicits attention from staff heavily panting. London is then walked slowly back to her kennel and lifted in without issue.

ENERGY LEVEL:: London is described as low energy. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for them.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 1
Recommendations:: No young children (under 5)
Recommendations comments:: No young children (under 5): Due to London's initial fearfulness displayed in the care center, we recommend a home without young children at this time.
Potential challenges: : Fearful,Anxiety
Potential challenges comments:: Fearful: During her previous stay London was observed to be a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give London the option to walk away from any social interaction. London should never be forced to approach anything that she is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be London’s choice to approach a new person or thing. London would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to her new surroundings. Please see handout on decompression. Anxiety: London appears anxious at the care center, pacing, panting, and seeking exit during her assessment. We have no history on her behavior in a home environment, so we do not know if this will occur outside of the care center. If it does appear in a future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving her other things to focus on to alleviate her anxiety. Positive reinforcement, force-free training only should be used. Please see handout on "general anxiety".
