Animal Profile

Truce

Hello, my name is Truce. My animal id is #202111. I am a desexed male black dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 4 months 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a returns on 8/16/2025.

Truce is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns displayed in his previous home and in care. Truce was returned after displaying aggression toward other dogs. During an introduction with another dog, Truce put his paws around the other dog and attempted to attack and lunge toward the dog’s neck. The previous owner also reported that if Truce had not been muzzled, he likely would have bitten. During walks, Truce also consistently lunged toward dogs of all sizes and has shown similar behavior toward cats. In the care center, Truce continues to lunge at both large and small dogs, as well as cats, while on walks. Truce is currently working with the training staff to address these behaviors. Medically, Truce is clinically healthy.

Truce is a thoughtful and eager pup enrolled in our Shelter Scholars program, where he's working on managing on-leash reactivity and learning to navigate his environment with greater confidence. Through positive reinforcement training, targeted leash exercises, and focus-building activities, Truce is practicing how to stay calm, redirect his attention, and walk more comfortably around distractions. He's making consistent progress and growing more confident every day. What my friends at ACC say about me: I need a home without cats or small animals. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I will need daily physical activity to keep me healthy and happy! My hobbies include snuggling, snacking, and strolling!
