Micky
Hello, my name is Micky. My animal id is #239842. I am a desexed male white cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years 1 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 10/23/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- eviction.
Micky is on the at-risk list for medical reasons. He is an adult cat with diarrhea and weight loss in shelter despite eating well. He needs an internal medicine consultation and diet trial to investigate possible inflammatory bowel disease.

What my friends at ACC say about me: I have lived with cats in my previous home. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. Micky has made excellent improvement since his first assessment, and while there's still room for a little bit more, he's really doing quite well. He's very treat-motivated and allowed all petting while enjoying Temptations and squeeze-ups. He gave an occasional hiss but didn't escalate, and even when the treats ran out, he continued to allow petting on his head and along his back. He probably just needs a little bit more time to fully acclimate. Micky interacts with the observer, appreciates attention, is easy to handle and tolerates all petting. No known history of behavioral problems. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred and be well counseled in conflicted behavior.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/26/25 PRIOR ASSESSMENT Micky was crouched down hide in the den with a tense body and wide eyes upon approach. When removing the den cover, he hisses and steps back with his ears tilted to the side. When reaching close with treats offered on the scratcher tool, he pauses to sniff them. When pet on the head, cheeks, and body he leans further back and begins growling. Pick up was no attempted in order to reduce stress. When placing the den cover back on, he hisses again and continues growling. 10/28/25 Vol. Also had no toys in his kennel. He was lying on top of his den when I approached. Hissed and swatted at clicker with Squeeze-ups. No reaction to cat dancer. Growled and swatted when I attempted to put a toy in his kennel. Swatted at a bowl with tuna that I tried to put in his kennel. Eventually put some tuna in his kennel that he immediately started eating. Spicy kitty! 10/29/25 Vol. Micky was on top of den, lying on his side with limbs and tail spread away from his body. His eyes were squinty. He readily accepted squeeze up on scratcher tool. When offered more, he briefly hissed before eating. He slowly climbed down to front of kennel to eat more squeeze up. His tail began to swish and he appeared tense, and swatted at the scratcher tool (not hard), so we ended interaction to limit FAS. 10/31/25 Vol. On top of hidey box, crouched, eyes slightly narrow and ears forward - sat up erect as I read report. Put in treat bowl - Micky gave a big hiss and backed up. Approached with scratcher tool he very, very gently put his paw on the tool but took it off - no hissing. He dodged his head and squinted his eyes but allowed scratches with tool - turning head to get scratch coverage. He would sit still when stopped and would move head a little to meet tool when scratching started again. While scratching - he raised his paw to push tool away - waited a minute and he allowed scratching again. Gave plenty and ended interaction. 11/1/25 Vol. On top of den when approached, spoken to and door opened. Offered dry treats on scratcher tool. sniffed and left treats on top of den. Ate treats. Offered more dry treats in front of him. Will swat at scratcher tool. Hissed. Offered squeeze up on scratcher tool. Swatted and hiss. Closed door. Left a tray with a little bit of squeeze up near front of kennel. Came down from den to eat squeeze up. Will sometimes paw at scratcher tool or tube of squeeze up to bring closer to him. 11/7/25 Resting inside the den. Alert with neutral eyes. He allows petting along the head and head bunts the hand. Enjoys chin rubs and ate offered squeeze up treats throughout the interaction. Has acclimated well at the care center.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Moderate
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Calm,Sweet,Curious,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Mildly conflicted, gives occasional hisses but allows petting all over. On 11/11/25, the foster was trying to move Micky from an electric sofa because she was worried it might be unsafe for him. Micky got scared and bit the foster on her right hand, between the thumb and index finger, leaving a small puncture. Micky seemed fearful and ran to hide immediately after the bite. Later on, he came out briefly to sniff around before returning to his hiding spot. Following the bite, the foster parent went to urgent care for treatment and antibiotics.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 2
RECOMMENDATIONS:: No young children,No other cats OR multi-cat home with adopters experienced with introducing new cats
Recommendations comments:: No children under age 13, respectful older children only. Counselor discretion. No other cats OR multi-cat home with adopters experienced with introducing new cats due to reports of how he tends to hide initially, stress meow, and prefer contact on his own terms. Counselor discretion is advised.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Micky has made excellent improvement since his first assessment, and while there’s still room for a little bit more, he’s really doing quite well. He’s very treat-motivated and allowed all petting while enjoying Temptations and squeeze-ups. He gave an occasional hiss but didn’t escalate, and even when the treats ran out, he continued to allow petting on his head and along his back. He probably just needs a little bit more time to fully acclimate. Micky tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.
