Logan
Hello, my name is Logan. My animal id is #17602. I am a desexed male black dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 7 months old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 1/3/2018, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving.
Reserved
Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.
Logan is at risk for behavior reasons. Logan is fearful in the shelter and allows minimal handling, he will growl and displays tendencies towards defensive aggression. Medically, Logan is recovering from a recent wound we understand him to have sustained after getting caught in a fence, but otherwise presents as a healthy dog.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...
A volunteer writes: Logan acts shy in his kennel. Well, we need to get a little bit more acquainted. A treat, a gentle pep talk, a scratch on the nose...and Logan is leashed. He is at first kind of a bronco, slightly twirly and jumpy, then he settles into a decent pace, even doing some business (Logan is not yet fully house trained at six months of age). He is excited in a healthy way, meeting other dogs. He is playful and bouncy in playgroups with his peers. According to his former owners, cats might not be Logan's best choice of housemates. Logan is a perfect sitter as being a smart pooch, he knows that a treat is coming. He is rather grabby and eager to take them from my hand. Some teaching is needed in the manners department. Yes, Logan is an active, enthusiastic youngster who, like all puppies, needs curbing, socialization and training. He did live with a child, was very fond of him, was his faithful steed (the child rode him like a pony--but please don't do this to him) and even slept with him. So, we know that there is a good and loving seed inside him, just ready to bloom in new and experienced hands. Logan has been beautifully cared for and loved. He is ready for you and to start a new page in his life as your forever best friend. Come and meet him soon at the Manhattan Care Center.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Recommendations:: Place with a New Hope partner,No children (under 13)
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to the potential for defensive aggression displayed at the care center, we recommend an adult only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the potential for defensive aggression displayed at the care center, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Resource guarding,House soiling
Potential challenges comments:: House soiling: Logan is noted to have accidents in the house, and will likely need guidance with house training. We recommend positive reinforcement, reward-based training only. Resource guarding: Logan's previous owner notes that he may growl when his food bowl is approached. We recommend that Beatty be left along while eating, and that food guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in his future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Logan's mouth, and any time something is removed he should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. He should be taught the "drop" cue and trade-up games. Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Logan's previous owner reported that he is fearful of new people and will bark and growl at them. At the care center, he has displayed this behavior as well as biting. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is recommended to assess behavior after decompression in a new home environment. Force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing or exposing Logan to new and unfamiliar situations.
