Summary (7):: 07/08/25 (Trainer Note): Creed is laying down in kennel as the handler approaches. He stands and comes slowly to the front, walking without pulling to the canine training room. He shows no interest in treats or toys but leans into contact for several minutes. Creed is returned to kennel without issue. 6/26/25: Creed is siting at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He tries to shove his snout through the gap door as the handler leashes him. He was not interest in treats and was able to be leashed when he stopped trying to shove his way out. He then pulls hard on the way to the behavior room for his assessment. In the room, he would pace around with heavy panting, had widened eyes and was not able to focus. He showed interest in spray cheese on the couch periodically and would try to jump up on the handlers. He head whips while being petted and his eyes continued to widen. Please see behavior assessment notes for more details. He pulls hard on the way back to his kennel. 6/25: Creed is standing in the middle of his kennel when a handler approaches. He begins to whine and shift forward toward the front of the kennel. The handler offers him treats, but he only sniffs them. The handler continues to coax him forward before attempting to leash him. Creed does the lead and head whips when it makes contact, throwing it off before the handler can secure the loop. When the handler resets, he attempts to push his way out. On another attempt, Creed is leashed. He is taken to the behavior office, pulling mildly on the lead. He passes other staff down the hallway, ignoring them. Once in the office, he is kept on the lead as he explores, and another handler prepares a collar and drag leash. He approaches the assessor with a wiggling body, pressing against the legs for petting. But he still does not accept spray cheese. When attempting to collar him with a slow approach, Creed whips his head back and forth quickly dislodging the collar before it could be closed. He then avoids the handlers, whining as he paces. Due to his increasing stress levels, he is returned to his kennel, and the attempt to conduct a handling assessment is suspended.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Creed, Potential challenges we recommend he is placed in an adult-only home at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Creed came into the care center as an owner surrender due to a pet policy change in the building, not allow large dogs. In the prior home, he is noted to know Sit , stay , down , paw , speak cues. His prior owners note that" He’s such an amazing dog and he’s just so lovable , he deserves everything and anything." In the care center environment, he displays a high level of stress, such as heavy panting, pacing, and is also noted to display a tense body when interacting with handlers and difficulty settling down. Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Basic manners/poor impulse control,Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful,Anxiety,On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration,Strength/leash pulling,Low threshold for arousal
Potential challenges comments:: Resource guarding: During Cred handling assessment, he displayed a tense body over the assessor's toy body block and began muzzle touching the dummy hand. Basic manners/poor impulse control: Creed jumps up non-stop, indicating a need for training to improve his impulse control and basic manners. Consistent training to teach him to sit or stay when greeting people, using positive reinforcement and redirection, will help manage this behavior. Please see the handout on Basic manners/poor impulse control. Handling/touch sensitivity/Fearful:Creed is noted in the prior home to become fearful when Held/restrained and will Barks/Growls when his paws are touched. He is noted to not like his nails trimmed. Always observe his body language and stop the interaction if he shows signs of discomfort, allowing him to move away if needed. Consistent and positive experiences with handling will help Creed become more comfortable over time. Please see the handout on Handling/touch sensitivity & decompression period. Anxiety: In the care center Creed display heavy panting, pacing, and is unable to settle. Managing his anxiety will require creating a calm environment, providing enrichment activities, and using stress-reducing techniques like puzzle toys and regular exercise. Please see handout on generalized anxiety. On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration Creed is noted to kennel fight and become on-leash reactive towards other dogs in care. Strength/leash pulling: Creed is noted hard pull on walks. Low threshold for arousal:It's important to implement training and management techniques to help him learn to regulate his arousal levels and redirect his energy appropriately. Consistency, positive reinforcement, and providing outlets for physical and mental stimulation can help address this behavior effectively.
