Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 04/13/26 Wavy is introduced to a novel female while off leash. He readily approaches the gate with a neutral frame and engages in mutual snigging with the female. When she disengages, he will run and bounce along the fence line, play bowing and demand barking when the female reapproaches. Due to the female's discomfort, the interaction is left at the gate.
Summary (7):: 4/10/26: Wavy is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He would constantly back away and dodge the leash as the handler attempts to leash him. He would come forward to sniff treats but would then back away again as the handler tries to bring the leash loop closer to him. He is able to be leashed when he quickly tries to stick his head out of kennel and is then taken to the behavior room for his assessment. In the room, he has a tense body and would head whip while being petted. Please see behavior assessment notes for more details. He is able to return back to his kennel with no issues. 4/8/26: Wavy is standing in the center of the kennel with a neutral frame and squinty eyes as the handler approaches. He is leashed with ease and brought out for walk. When on the walk, Wavy will sniff around, walking very slowly. When returning to the care center, Wavy will no longer move forward but will engage with the handler when they crouch down so they will coax him forward for a few feet. The handler will then use slight leash pressure to help him move forward. He will then walk back to his kennel with no issue.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have limited history on Wavy so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to wavy fearfulness and bite history, we reccomend he be placed in an adult-only home at this time. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment, the behavior department recommends Wavy be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Wavy to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Wavy to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Wavy presents with outside of the care centers.
