He has developed a severe URI and his behavior is making is difficult to treat him and keep him comfortable in the shelter. Ducky needs more supportive care than we can provide and he needs a quiet environment to allow his body to heal.

What my friends at ACC say about me: My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet! I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. I am looking for a home with a patient person. I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.

Behavior Assessment

KNOWN HISTORY:: Ducky was brought in as a stray; there is no known information on his behavior history in a home environment. During intake, Ducky was hissing and growling.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 9/14/26 FB73 + ACFR 1st Interaction: Ducky was crouched towards the back of the den, tense and low growling as handlers approach. Handler waits for Ducky to stop low growling, as he stops the handler marks the behavior and attempts to end the interaction Ducky begins to low growl again. Handler repeats the same process, pausing as Ducky low growls and ending the interaction when low growling stops. 2nd Interaction: Handler approaches Ducky, lifting towel to observe him through the den door. Ducky begins low growling but stops quicker this time. When low growling stops and Ducky begins to settle into a more comfortable position, handler marks behavior and ends interaction.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Ducky is crouched in the back of his den, body tense, pupils dilated, and low growling as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened and the den cover is opened, he lunges forward, swatting hard with both paws at the den door towards the assessor. The assessor speaks to him softly and offers crunchy treats, but he does not respond to them, continuing to low growl. When petting is attempted with the click stick, Ducky continues to low growl and begins swatting the stick with hard pressure and claws before beginning to bite it. The interaction is ended to reduce stress. Ducky is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. He is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
