Details on my behavior are...

Behavior Condition: 3. Yellow

KNOWN HISTORY:: Lucian was brought in without information on their behavior history in their previous home. His finder reports he displayed fearful behavior and was trying to flee from capture.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 02/16/18 Observed Behavior - initially in net due to attempts to flee, tense, but allowed all aspects of handling

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 02/16/18 Hiding behind his litter box in the back of the kennel. His eyes widen, starts breathing rapidly when I opened the cage door. Eyes dart around looking for an exit. He tolerates brief petting with the bear-claw. Seems very uncomfortable and quickly rushes forward trying to escape the kennel. Needs more time to adjust. 02/17/18 Hiding underneath the kuranda bed. Seems very uncomfortable and is extremely wary of his surroundings. He presses his body up against the back wall and tries to avoid eye contact. I offered treats and talked softly to her for a few minutes to calm her down. After a few minutes she shifts her weight and crouched behind the leg of the kuranda bed. He slow blinks when touched and eventually leans in, allowing rubs on his cheeks. Needs more time to adjust.

Cage Condition:: Cage is neat

Reaction to assessor:: Lucian was lying down by the back of his kennel, flat, with his tail wrapped around his body.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Lucian makes eye contact, and then looks away.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Lucian remains motionless and continues to avoid eye contact.

Reaction to touch:: Lucian tolerates gentle petting with a slow approach, but remains very still and immobile. He eyes darts around, looking at his surroundings.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Mellow

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Lucian has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and appears uncomfortable with extended handling. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Experience

Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Lucian tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.
