Animal Profile

Fancy

Hello, my name is Fancy. My animal id is #226045. I am a desexed female gray tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 11 months 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 5/1/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person health - medical.

Fancy is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and is deteriorating in the Adoptions room. She used to tolerate all petting and handling but now escalates to defensive behaviors during interactions. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

A volunteer writes: Little Fancy seems to have been a joy to own. A cute 10 month old gal, playful, affectionate, friendly to all(she lived with 3 cats and 2 kittens), loving to be carried and brushed...She was all what a youngster should be! Sadly, her owner became unable to care for her and her sibling, Bull and they were brought to the Manhattan Care Center. When I first met Fancy, she was just a little bit shy. Somehow, the shelter environment got to her and she was just a bit "blue" and frozen in her kennel...The good girl transpired through it all though and one could see that she appreciated very much petting and sweet words. Somehow, she went back to square one and instead of feeling more and more entrusted, she became more fearful again. I was able to pet her yesterday(6/17) while she was eating high value food but I knew that she was not trusting me fully...Fancy is so pretty and petite, a lovely kitten with a long life in front of her. You could make such a difference by giving her a home and  the chance to have once again the warmth and the love she so much needs to bloom into the lovely flower she was , once upon a time... I have lived with cats in my previous home. Cheek and chin scratches make me so happy! I have been known to shower my favorite people in love! I am a cat that is in need of a lap! I can't wait to be your new lap cat. I am finding the shelter a little overwhelming, but when it's just you and me and some peace and quiet you'll see what a love bug I am. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.
