Hello, my name is Ginger. My animal id is #68469. I am a desexed female brown tabby cat at the . The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 7/8/2019, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- moving - no pets allowed.

Ginger is at risk for behavior concerns. She tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. There are no medical concerns at this time.

Progress exam History : Intake 7/8/19-fleas, gave capstar 7/14-started on gabapentin for shelter anxiety Subjective: BAR. Cage exam. Objective EENT: Eyes clear, no nasal or ocular discharge noted H/L: Normal RR/RE, eupneic MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate - no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Apparently healthy Prognosis: Excellent Plan: CTM while at BACC Continue gabapentin 20mg/kg PO BID Ok to travel, HC signed

Upon intake Ginger was meowing loud and did not allow any handling. When taken out the carrier , she began to hissed and ran back in the carrier. No handling was done. Counselor was unable to collar and take a photo.

How is this cat around children?: Owner stated Ginger lived with 2 children ages 1 and 6 years old. She is relaxed, affectionate, respectful and usually tolerant around them.

How is this cat around other cats?: owner stated Ginger has not lived with any cats. It is unknown of her behavior with them.

How is this cat around dogs?: Owner stated Ginger has not lived with any dogs. It is unknown of her behavior with them.

Behavior Notes: scratches furniture and hides in fear when she do not know the person walking in the house.

She like to fetch balls and play with strings, catnip and laser pointer toys. She is indoors only cat. She has never been groomed so it is unknown of the behavior. she eats both wet and dry food twice a day. she also likes to eat temptation treats. She is litter box trained. She uses a hooded litter box and clumping litter.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:: 7/8/19 swatting and trying to bite without previous indication

Reaction to assessor:: Ginger watches the assessor carefully from the back of the kennel, laying sideways and facing front.

Reaction when softly spoken to:: Ginger remains tense and gives a hiss.

Reaction to cage door opening:: Ginger pulls back slightly and hisses.

Reaction to touch:: As the assessor approaches with the scratcher tool and treats Ginger hisses repeatedly and pulls back more. Upon being touched she stops hissing, squints her eyes, and her ears go sideways. When the assessor pulls back she begins hissing again.

Potential challenges comments:: Ginger has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide him/her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step.
