Hello, my name is Fluffy. My animal id is #262624. I am a desexed female tabby cat at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 8/17/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.

Behavior team noted continued high FAS, with hissing and swatting noted. Requesting behavior medications. A: High FAS P: Already on Gabapentin 100mg BID. Plan to increase medications: Rx Gabapentin 150mg BID indefinitely.

Potential challenges comments:: Fluffy should be given a slow introduction to the home, one room at a time starting in a small room like a bathroom with food, litter and water. Interact with her in this room until she seems sufficiently confident that you feel you can introduce her to the next part of the home without running the risk that she will hide. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to help introduce your cat to the home. Fluffy has displayed fearful behavior during their stay in the care center and has displayed distance-increasing behavior with extended handling. Fear aggression can occur when a cat perceives a threat and may escalate if they cannot escape. A fearful cat will feel more relaxed when given options, so provide her with the chance to move closer, investigate, or interact with you. Be sure to offer incentive such as treats or play time whenever the cat makes a small positive step. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to desensitize your cat to their fear stimulus.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Fluffy was crouched in her den with dilated eyes and hissed once the handler lifted her den cover. She watched them slowly while low growling, sniffing the treats offered to her but showing no further interest. She repositioned herself into a sitting position and allowed petting along her head and chin with the click stick while she continued to low-growl. She hissed again and when the handler placed her den cover back, she lunged at the cover. Fluffy is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to lunge and is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
