Bite history:: Noted to scratch the cat she lived with when it was a kitten. Luna was eating her food when the kitten approached her. The scratch resulted in bleeding. The kitten was treated at the vet. The previous owner said they were best friends.

Other Notes:: Luna is noted to be fearful of loud arguments and rough playing. She growls, barks, and snaps. She has general anxiety. When left alone, she likes to go through the garbage. She barks a lot. She isn't bothered with all of the following: Being restrained, disturbed, moved from the furniture, or when her paws or collar are touched. BB Notes: Overall: The volunteer described Luna as wiggly. She was unbothered by people, birds, scooters, cyclists, cars, and even some unexpected daytime fireworks! Dogs: Luna was interested in dogs and would stare when she saw one nearby, but she was easily redirected with treats and/or slight leash pressure. Toward the end of the BoroughBreak, she did begin pulling toward dogs on the sidewalk, but she was still able to pass dogs in close proximity without barking, lunging, or prolonged fixation. When dogs passed her and barked at her, Luna remained calm and did not react. She was not a strong puller overall. Resource guarding: The volunteer was able to remove a collagen stick, treat-filled Kong, and water bowl without issue. Luna was also happy to have her toys picked up and showed no concerning behavior around her stuffies or tug toys. Handling: Luna allowed handling, including having her paws touched, and tolerated a full-body wipe-down with Earth Rated wipes without issue. Walking: Luna maintained a loose leash and was almost in a heel for the majority of the walk. She loves to sniff and was very easy to walk. Personality: She takes treats nicely and is overall very chill, but definitely has a playful side. She loved playing with stuffies and tug and would get adorable zoomies when playing or when the volunteer ran with her.

Summary:: According to Luna's previous owner(s), she is noted to be tolerant and friendly with the LMB male she lived with and her four puppies. Noted to be tolerant of unfamiliar dogs she sees on walks. Luna has displayed consistently social and playful behavior with multiple novel dogs at the care center. She frequently approaches other dogs with a loose body, mid-level tail wags, readily soliciting interaction. During successful introductions, Luna has engaged in mutual sniffing, push/pull play, light body contact, and has demonstrated the ability to take natural breaks, shake off, and re-engage appropriately throughout play sessions. Luna has also shown great social awareness, as interactions have remained appropriate when other dogs were less interested or uncomfortable and she is very easily called over even during play. Luna is able to give and take corrections appropriately. At times, Luna can be sexually motivated and mount other dogs. Overall, Luna appears to be a social, playful dog who enjoys interacting with other dogs. She would likely do well with appropriately matched dogs that enjoy active but appropriate play and would benefit from continued opportunities to engage in supervised social interactions.

Summary (4):: 9/17/26: Luna is at the front of her kennel with a loose, wiggly body, spinning around as the handler approaches; the handler clips her harness and brings her out the room. Luna walks far ahead with mild leash tension and no reactivity to people or dogs. She allows pets, sits on command, and takes treats softly. Upon entry, the handler feeds Luna treats while her kennel is being cleaned; she shows no interest in other stimuli. Afterwards, Luna is returned to her kennel with ease. 9/6/26: Luna is at the front of the kennel with a loose and wiggly body, she is spinning in circles with a soft body. Luna is easily leashed and pulls hard out of the kennel room. She approaches familiar staff in the hallway with a loose body and wagging tail. Luna is taken to the street, where she walks with a slack leash. She stops to smell different objects on the ground. Handler engages with her and she tolerates slight petting with a soft body but walks away and does not engage further. Luna relieves herself and is walked back to the shelter. She is returned without issue. 8/30/26: Luna is lying down at the back of her kennel when handler approaches. She gets up, does body shake and comes closer to the front. She gently accepts offered treats and is easily leashed. Luna walks next to the handler all the way out of the room with no reaction toward neighboring dogs. Once in the hallway, Luna pulls forward but has no interest in pop-up crates or staff members. Luna is taken to the play-yard where she immediately relieves herself. After she placed on the drag-line and starts discovering and sniffing around. She doesn't react towards other dogs or staff members in neighboring pens. She is social with handler, sits next to them on the bench and leans onto them asking for more pets. She follows verbal cues "sit" and "paw" and gently takes treats as a reward. Her body is loose and face is relaxed. During return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Luna back into her kennel with no further issues. 8/20/26: Luna is at the front of her kennel with a soft body, spinning around as the handler approaches; the handler clips their leash to her harness and brings her out the room. Luna is brought to the yard for playgroup (see D2D notes). After her interaction, Luna approaches the other handlers with a loose body and wagging tail; she also allows pets. After the interaction, the handler brings Luna inside and returns her to her kennel.

The handler clips their leash to her harness; Luna goes down the stairs with ease, sniffing a staff member who sits on them with a soft body. Luna is brought to the yard for playgroup (see D2D notes). Before her interaction, Luna approaches the other handlers with a loose body and wagging tail; she also allows pets. After the interaction, the handler brings Luna inside and returns her to her kennel. 8/13/26: Luna is at the front of her kennel with a soft body, jumping up as the handler approaches; she is easily leashed and brought out the room. Luna pulls hard exiting the room, a little close to the kennels; once outside the room, the handler clips their leash to her harness. Luna is brought to the yard for playgroup (see D2D notes). Before the interaction, Luna allows pets with a soft body; she also allows one of the handlers to place a new collar on her and readjust her harness. After the interaction, the handler brings Luna inside and returns her to her kennel. 8/9/26: Luna is at front of her kennel with a neutral body where she is easily leashed and taken for a street walk. She walks slightly ahead of handler while lightly pulling. She accepts treats with a soft mouth. She is returned to kennel with no issue. 8/01/26 [D2D]: Luna is at front of her kennel with loose body and wagging tail when handler approaches. She is easily leashed and taken out of the room. She slightly pulls ahead in the hallways but stops in elevator, sitting for treats. She is taken to the yard for the playgroup (see notes). During return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Luna back into her kennel with ease.

Summary (6):: 7/30/26: Luna is at the front of her kennel with a loose, wiggly body, spinning around in kennel. She is easily leashed and brought out the room. Once downstairs, Luna quickly jumps on nearby staffers with a loose body; the handler pulls her off. Luna is brought to the yard for playgroup; in between her interactions, Luna sits in front of the other handlers and solicits treats and pets. She also follows them around as they walk in the pen. After the interaction, the handler brings Luna inside; before retuning her, they pet her, which she leans into. Luna is returned to her kennel with ease. 7/25/26: Luna is at the front of the kennel with a loose wiggly body and wagging tail. She is easily leashed and taken out of the kennel. She pulls moderately down the hall as she is brought downstairs. Luna is taken to the backyard. She relieves herself and does a brief interaction with another dog (see dog-dog notes). Afterwards, Luna is walked back to the shelter and returned to her kennel without issue. 7/22/26 (Trainer Note): Luna was at the front of kennel on approach. She circled once tip tapping her toes before coming to the front. It should be noted that the circle was seeminly due to excitement as her body was loose and wiggly, commissure soft and ears perked at the front of her head. She was clipped and pulled only slightly towards the elevator. Once in the training room she was able to work on leave it progressing to a lowered open hand. She continued to engage with trainer and was very affiliative. Her kennel return was not noteworthy. 7/18/26:Luna is at the front of her kennel with soft body, spinning in circles as the handler approaches. She is easily leashed and brought out the room. On the street, Luna walks with mild leash tension; she doesn't react to people. Luna engages with the handler by allowing pets. Upon entry, Luna approaches and sniffs a staff member with a wiggly body. The handler clips their leash and returns Luna to her kennel. 7/8/26: Luna is at the front of her kennel with soft body, spinning in circles as the handler approaches. She is easily leashed and brought out the room. While walking in the hallway, Luna jumps on a familiar handler with a soft body; the handle then walks her down the stairs with ease. The handler brings Luna to the yard for playgroup (see dog-dog notes). Afterwards, the handler brings her inside; during the elevator ride, she approaches another familiar handler with a soft body. The handler clips their leash and returns Luna to her kennel with ease.

Summary (7):: 7/7/26: Luna is at the front of the kennel with a loose and wiggly body. She is easily leashed and pulls hard out of the kennel. Her harness is easily clipped and she is walked downstairs to the street. Luna where she pulls mild to moderately, occasionally stopping to sniff various spots on the ground. Luna passes people without issue. When observing a dog she stares at them with a tense body and wide stance, her ears perked. When the dog leaves her sight, she is able to walk back inside. Luna is taken to the assessment office. After her assessment, she is fitted for a new harness which she tolerates well. Luna is then taken back upstairs and is returned to her kennel with treats. 6/27/26: Luna is at the front of the kennel with a soft and wiggly body. She is spinning in circles as the handler unlocks the kennel. Luna is easily leashed and taken out of the kennel. She pulls moderately and allows the handler to clip a leash to her harness. Luna is taken out towards the street and pulls moderately. She relieves herself and begins to pull mildly. Luna observes dogs and stares towards them with a tense forward body. She is difficult to call away or redirect with squeakers but is receptive to treats. Luna pulls moderately back to the shelter and is returned to her kennel without issue. 06/18/26: Luna is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches, she is exuberant with a loose wiggly body and fast wagging tail while panting heavily. Luna allows leashing and walks out of kennel with handler pulling forward moderately. She continues to pull forward but allows handler to clip their leash to her harness which alleviates some of her pulling. She walks to the street with handler and passes people without issue. Luna stops to relieve herself and she remains exuberant outside during her walk. She is walked for a while before being brought back inside and returned to kennel without issue. 6/11/26: Luna is laying down at the front of her kennel when handler approaches. She shows whale eye when handler offers a treat and turning head away when being called. Handler attempts to open the kennel and she allows to put the leash on. Handler offers a treat and she sniffs but didn't take it. When she feels the leash pressure she starts lifting her lips a snarling. During all interaction Luna is not moving and keep laying down and starring at the handler with tense body. After a while, handler had to use a hook to get the leash back and finish interaction.

ENERGY LEVEL:: Luna is described as active and enthusiastic. They will need daily mental and physical activity to keep them engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm. We recommend feeding with puzzle feeders and food-dispensing toys. And we recommend using force-free, reward-based training techniques for Luna.

Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Luna's previous owner states that she will growl and snap when people or dogs approach her while in the possession of food. In her previous home, Luna scratched the resident cat when it approached while she was eating. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Luna's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. We recommend that Luna be fed separately from other animals and people. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Fearful: Luna's previous owner states that she is fearful of loud arguments and will growl, bark, and snap. During intake, Luna began to thrash and flail during vaccines. When a handler approached Luna to remove her from kennel she remained at the back of the kennel and lip lifted at the handler. They should never be forced to approach anything that they are uncomfortable with or submit to petting or handling. It should always be their choice to approach a new person or thing. Luna would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to their new surroundings. Please see handout on Decompression Period. On Leash Reactivity: Luna has been observed to stare and fixate on other dogs while on leash. This behavior is not easy to redirect. Luna will need positive reinforcement, reward based training to teach them to look at you rather than other dogs. We recommend a front clip harness to help manage this behavior.
