Summary:: Bilbo Waggins arrived at the care centers as a stray, so his behavior with other dogs is unknown. 7/19/26: Bilbo Waggins greets a novel female dog on leash through the barrier and when greeting the female dog Bilbo will have a loose body, play bow and begin to scream through the barrier. Due to Bilbo's frustration, thew gate is opened and both dogs greet on leash. The female dog begins to play rough, jumping on Bilbo and grabbing onto his fur on his neck and vocalizes. Bilbo is tolerant, and quickly whips around to body block her and run away. Both dogs engage in chase, body contact and allows the female dog to grab onto him and roll around. Bilbo is uncomfortable with this behavior, but does a good job of tolerating and navigating the female to a different form of play. Both dogs are seperated after several minutes of play. 5/31/26: Bilbo Waggins greets a novel male dog on leash through a barrier. Bilbo Waggins approaches the gate and engages in mutual sniffing with the novel male. Both dogs display loose, social body language throughout the interaction, wagging their tails and remaining engaged at the barrier. The dogs spend an extended period sniffing and investigating along the fence line without escalation or signs of discomfort.

Summary (6):: 7/20: Bilbo Waggins was reported to be leash biting but can be redirected with treats briefly before he resumes his leash biting during his morning walk. For his mid-day walk, Bilbo continues leash biting even when offered treats and toys to carry. 07/19/26 (playgroup): Bilbo Waggins is jumping up at the kennel door as handler approaches. He is wiggly upon leashing. In the hallway he begins to mouth leash and handler's hand, handler throws treats on the ground and he then walks forward as normal. He is brought to the play yard where he meets a novel female dog. He readily engages with the novel dog. Please see dog-to-dog for more information. He is brought back to the kennel with no issue. 07/08/26 (Trainer Note): Bilbo Waggins is brought to the canine training room. He interacts with handlers with a loose, wiggly body, mild pant and dilated pupils. He intermittently jumps up onto handlers but is easily redirected. The handler works with him on the leave it cue and he is able to leave treats on the ground. Bilbo is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue. 07/06/26 (Trainer Note): Bilbo Waggins was barking as the trainer entered the kennel room. He was easily leashed and pulled strongly tot the training room. When. inside, the handler attempted to engage Bilbo to continue work on the leave it cue. Bilbo would pace and pan t around the room, with dilated pupils. The handler gave Bilbo a lick mat which he engaged with for several minutes. Several handler entered the room and Bilbo continued to engage with he lick mat, periodically jumping at a handler's desk. The handler was unable to engage Bilbo and he continued to choose the lick mat. Bilbo was easily re leashed and returned to kennel without issue. 07/02/26 (Trainer Note): Bilbo Waggins comes to the front of his kennel upon noticing the handler. He is easily leashed and pulls hard to the canine training room. The handler works with him on the leave it cue and he is able to leave a treat in a flat hand. Bilbo maintains a wiggly body and mild pant for the duration of the interaction. He is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue. 6/24: Bilbo Waggins is seen coming out of the room, jumping up and leash biting. The ACS walking him squeaks a toy and offers it to him. He pauses for a second to sniff the toy but then goes back to jumping up and biting the leash. He finally holds onto the bottom of the leash, closest to him, pulling and shaking his head. 06/23/26 (Trainer Note): Bilbo Waggins is standing at the front of his kennel as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and pulls hard to the canine training room. The handler works with him on the leave it cue and Bilbo is able to leave a treat in a flat hand. He intermittently walks away from training, exploring the room with a loose body. He displays dilated pupils and a mild pant for the duration of the interaction. Bilbo is easily leashed and returned to kennel without issue.

Summary (7):: 6/14/26: Bilbo Waggins is standing at the front of his kennel as handler approaches. He is able to be leashed with ese and he pulls hard on the way outside for a walk. On the walk, he continues to pull ahead as he explores around. He would stare at dogs as they passed by, and is able to be redirected with treats. He would stare at the handler each time he wanted to receive more treats. He pulls hard on the way back to his kennel and is able to enter with no issues. 06/07/26: Bilbo Waggins is at the front of the kennel as the handler approaches. He is leashed easily and brought outside for a walk. In the hallway, Bilbo Waggins jumps up and mouths the leash twice. He pulls mildly throughout the building and outside on his walk. He jumps up and mouths the leash again while returning, but does not make any repeated attempts. He is returned to his kennel and the leash is removed without issue. 6/5/26: Bilbo Waggins is observed to leash bite outside on his walk, he will jump up and grab the leash and begin to tug at it but an ACS staff member is able to distract him with treats back to his kennel. He will make several attempts to leash bite, but the staff member was quick to refocus him and entered back into the building with no issue. 5/31/26: Bilbo Waggins is at the back of his kennel as the handler approaches. He is the front of the kennel and is leashed with no issue. He will then come out of the kennel quickly and pull moderately to the play yard. He will mildly leash bite as they exit the elevator but is able to be distracted with a squeaker and treats. He does the same close to the play yard. Once in the yard his collar is clipped with a drag leash and he is able to roam freely around the yard and will approach the gate to greet another male dog with a loose wiggly frame. After a while he is returned to kennel with only one incident of attempting to leash bite 05/30/26: Bilbo Waggins is at the front of the kennel when the handler approaches. He is leashed easily and brought to the office for his assessment. he is collared while distracted by cheese, and then he runs around the office and eats treats. He mouthed at the leash briefly, but was easily redirected with a squeaker and treats. After his assessment, he is returned to his kennel without issue. See Behaviour Assessment for more details. 05/29/26: ACS reported that Bilbo Waggins would mildly leash bite on the walk.

Fearful: Bilbo Waggins is noted to become fearful when passing dogs barking in kennel. Supporting him with distance from triggers and controlled exposure may help improve his confidence. Treats and toys are used to redirect him, but that is slowly loosing its value. Training should focus on reinforcing calm leash behavior and redirecting him to appropriate alternatives during walks.
