Animal Profile

Blue Blue

Hello, my name is Blue Blue. My animal id is #246353. I am a desexed male white cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 2 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a aco - owner surrender on 2/7/2026, with the surrender reason stated as animal behavior - aggressive towards people.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Blue Blue is on the at-risk list due to behavior. He is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to his stress levels, it is in his best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. He would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give him/her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers.

Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Date of Intake: 1/26/2026

KNOWN HISTORY:: Blue Blue was surrendered a second time after reportedly immediately trying to attack the owner and the other resident cat. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Blue Blue was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment. He has previously lived indoors with 1 adult and 1 cat. The owner has had since he was a newborn. He has been fine until about a month ago. Owner reported he has scratched her 3 times in the last month. She thinks she was stressing Blue Blue out by kissing and hugging him too much. She says that he has become too unpredictable. Blue Blue has never had any issues with the other cat in the home. **There is a scratch history** Upon intake cat was very stressed. Staff transferred directly from carrier to den. Cat was not scanned for MC or collared.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: PRIOR ASSESSMENT Upon approach, Blue Blue was on the ledge, eyes are wide, ears are forward and he is backing away into the corner of the ledge as he hisses and starts to low growl. He continues to low growl throughout the entire interaction. Slowly offering the scratcher through the food slot, he curiously sniffs while his wide eyes are fixated elsewhere. Attempting to pet with the scratcher, he avoids touch as he ducks and dodges, and then jumps down off the ledge. Opening the door, the assessor offers the tool again as he crouched alongside the den. He hisses and swats very hard at the scratcher this time before jumping back up on the ledge. Ending the interaction at this point, about a minute after the door was closed, Blue Blue lunged at the front of the kennel making a big banging sound as the assessor was still in the room. 1/28/26 FB61 Lying alongside cat den, body and face tense. He stares straight ahead with his ears forward and his pupils dilated. He tenses slightly and leans away when offered treats and a catnip toy and he remains frozen in place when I try to engage him with the pole type toy. He appears to be frozen in fear. He shows no signs of further escalation at this time. 2/02/26 FB61 Hunched on top of perch, body and face tense with pupils very dilated. He whips his head to watch as I open the cubby door and I keep the interaction brief as I offer some treats and then close the kennel door. I speak to him softly and slow-blink and he stares at me frozen in place with wide eyes. Needs more time to adjust. 2/11/26 FB20 Blue Blue is hunched on his shelf with flattened ears. He hisses consistently on approach and when the door is opened. He will low growl and ignores squeeze up offered on scratcher tool, but does not escalate further. Once he stops growling, the scratcher tool is slowly removed. Squeeze up is left in a tray that hopefully he will investigate later.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Skittish

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period

Potential challenges comments:: Please see relevant behavior flyers.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only

RECOMMENDATIONS:: No other cats OR multi-cat home with adopters experienced with introducing new cats,Adult only home

Recommendations comments:: Blue Blue was noted to attempt attack the resident cat when brought back into his home. While it is important to note previously Blue Blue was noted to have no issues with the resident cat, future adopters/foster should practice careful, slow introductions with resident animals.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Upon approach, Blue Blue is crouched on the kennel shelf. He has wide dilated eyes and flattened ears, hissing on approach. When the door is opened, he low growls and continues to hiss. The scratcher tool is extended to Blue Blue, who immediately swats hard, claws extended. He continues to hiss and low growl as the tool is removed. The interaction is ended to avoid increasing his stress. Blue Blue is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and may require further investigation before placement in a home. He has tried to swat and scratch, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time. He may have a known history of behavioral issues that need to be addressed.
