Resource guarding:: Treasure Map was reported to snap without breaking skin when the finder's adult child attempted to take his toy.

Bite history:: The finder noticed that Treasure Map had peed in the house again. The finder then sternly told him to "Stop" while waving their finger at him. Treasure Map then jumped and snapped at their finger on their right hand. The dog's tooth then scraped the finger, breaking skin and drawing blood. Treasure Map then walked away. Treasure Map was reported to snap without breaking skin when the finder's adult child attempted to take his toy.

Housetrained:: No

Energy level/descriptors:: Treasure Map is noted to have a high energy level in the prior home.

Other Notes:: Treasure Map was reported to hide when the finder raised her voice or when she used her cane in the home Treasure Map was reported to have accidents in the home. He is known to urinate only once on each wee-wee pad, then he will urinate on the floor. He is reported to allow the finder to bathe him without issue. Treasure Map is described as playful and affectionate. He is known to walk well on leash but will pull when he wants to sniff on walks.

Summary:: 08/12/26: Due to Treasure Map's high level of FAS, a handling assessment will not be condcuted at this time.

Summary (6):: 8/10/26: Treasure Map is lying in kennel looking out the front. As handler opens kennel he stands up and retreats to the back lowering his head. Handler leashes him and picks him up to remove him from kennel. Treasure Map is sat down and the ground and his shaking. Handler encourages him to walk and he follows handler to the back yard. Outside he relives himself and continues to follow handler while still shaking. Handler escorts Treasure Map into one of the small play pens and sits down. Treasure Map sits as well and is still shaking. Handler offers treats which Treasure Map ignores. Handler speaks to Treasure Map in a soft voice and also baby voice but he continues to tremble. He is returned to kennel with no issue. 8/8/26: Treasure Map is sitting in his kennel; as the handler opens his kennel to leash him, he goes to the back of it. He also keeps his head lowered to avoid the leash being placed on him, but the handler is able to reach in and leash him. Treasure still doesn't stand up so the handler gently applies leash pressure for him to face the front; eventually he stands up and slowly climbs out the kennel. The handler walks Treasure in the yard; he walks with mild leash tension. The handler sits down in the yard and calls his name, but Treasure doesn't turn to them. After he relieves himself, the handler brings Treasure inside and returns him to his kennel with ease.

Summary (7):: 8/7/26: Treasure Map is lying down at back of kennel. Handler was able to leash him but he would not move. Handler applied light leash pressure and Treasure Map sill refused to move. Handler decided to leave alone and try back later. Handler made second attempt. Treasure Map was able to be leashed and then picked up and taken to the back yard for a walk. Once outside he relieved himself. While he was in the play pen Treasure Map was visibly shaking. Handler would try to engage with him but he would move away. After being outside for a couple of mins handler walked around the play pen and Treasure Map would follow, but after a little while he stopped and refused to continue. At this time handler picked him back up and returned him to kennel. 8/6/26 (PM): Treasure Map is lying down at the back of his kennel and begins trembling when the handler approaches. A couple treats are tossed and he eats them and steps forward. When the leash touches him, he retreats to the back of the kennel and lies down facing away from the handler, avoiding eye contact. The handler tosses another treat but he does not move. The handler is able to lasso him and secure the leash but Treasure Map does not come forward. Mild leash pressure is used for him to exit kennel. Once out of kennel, he walks with no pulling and sniffs nearby the pop up crates while going outside. He immediately uses the bathroom outside multiple times. He sniffs in the yard briefly and then sits down not approaching either handler. He has no interest in treats. The handler crouches sideways nearby and speaks softly to him, he avoids eye contact. After a few minutes he begins shaking. He walks back inside without issue but refuses to enter his kennel, leash pressure is used again for the return. 08/07/26 (Am): Treasure Map is at the center of his kennel as handler approaches, he is offered treats but does not accept any of them. He retreats further into kennel and curls into the back while his lower body trembles. He is lasso leashed and begins refusing to leave kennel, due to him already seeming stressed handler does not use leash pressure to remove Treasure Map. Handler leaves for a bit to give Treasure some time to relax, upon return the leash is removed and Treasure remains tense in the corner. Handler ends interaction to not further increase Treasures stress levels.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to Treasure Map's fearfulness, we recommend that he be placed in a home with no children. Place with a New Hope partner: In the care center, Treasure Map is noted to display fearful behavior and has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
