Animal Profile

Randall

Hello, my name is Randall. My animal id is #87904. I am a male brown dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 3 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 2/5/2020.

Someone has already placed a deposit on me. I'm no longer available.

Randall is at risk for behavioral reasons. Randall came to us a stray; brought in by the police after being found in the lobby of a building where he bit one of the residents. While the full details of the bite are not entirely known, it was likely due to over stimulation. At the care center, Randall exhibits friendly behavior and is social toward people and also seems to like other dogs, but has a low threshold for arousal and quickly becomes mouthy. Randall would be best suited for placement with a new hope partner that can provide reward based training and behavior modification. Medically, Randall seems healthy.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Randall so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. At the care center, he displays a high level of activity. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Randall's bite history, we recommend an adult-only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Due to the low threshold for arousal and mouthiness Randall displays at the care center and outside of the care center, in one instance to the mouthing to the point of breaking skin, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.

Potential challenges: : Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition,Low threshold for arousal,Bite history (human)

The bite resulted in broken skin. See handout on Bite History. Low threshold for arousal: Randall was loose in the lobby of a building and jumping up on people excitedly. He jumped up on a woman and bit her wrist (see Bite History), displaying a potential low threshold for arousal. Please see handout on Arousal. Mouthiness/poor bite inhibition: Randall has been mouthy at the care center, grabbing peoples' arms in his mouth. Please see handout on Mouthiness.
