Summary (5):: 11/17/25: (PM Walk) Zeyta is lying down in the back of her kennel. She approaches the front with a neutral body and a soft wagging tail. She walks to the street with a stiff tail. She sniffs her surroundings and relieves herself. Zeyta is walked back to the shelter. She begins jumping up on the handler repeatedly with a slightly tense body. Handler offers her treats and she takes them gently. Zeyta is walked back inside and returned to her kennel without issue.
Summary (6):: 11/17/25: Zeyta is at the front of the kennel when the handler approaches. She is easily leashed and taken to the yard. While in the yard she gets the zoomies and runs around the handler before relieving herself. After that Zeyta remains fixated on the handler and stares at them intensely whenever the handler makes a movement her eyes follows. When the handler moves Zeyta becomes aroused and begins bucking and running around the handler. The handler is able to clip their leash and return Zeyta without further escalation. 11/16/25: Zeyta is at the front of her kennel as handler approaches. She is leashed while distracted with treats and taken to the street for her walk. While outside she walks with handler and pulls forward moderately. Zeyta passes people on the street without issue and will stare at dogs she sees while pulling moderately toward them until line of sight is broken. She stops to sniff frequently and relieves herself during her walk. After a while she is brought back inside and her leash is clipped before she is returned to kennel without further issue. 11/15/25: Zeyta is at the front soft body. She is easily leashed and removed from kennel. She is walked on the street where she would move quickly ahead of handler and when the leash tightens she will look at handler. She will sit for treats and take them gently. She continues to look at handler for more treats. Handler tosses them forward to get her moving and she pounces on the treat (jumps on them with her paws). She is easily clipped and returned to kennel.
Summary (7):: 11/14/25: Zeyta is at the front of the kennel, sitting against the bars upon approach. She is easily leashed and removed from kennel, where she would have a mild pull out of the room and would continue to shake off. Zeyta is then taken for a street walk where she would relieve herself in multiple spots and would pull with a neutral body. She would walk past people and dogs with no issue and be rewarded with a treat. She would walk ahead of the handler on the way back towards the shelter and is easily clipped and returned to her kennel. 11/13/25: Zeyta is at the front of her kennel lying down as handler approaches. She is offered treats and accepts them gently and is leashed while distracted. She is removed from kennel and quickly dashes down the hall and out to the street for her walk. During her walk Zeyta pulls moderately and walks with handler, stopping to sniff or relive herself. She walks with handler and passes people on the street without issue, when seeing dogs she will pull moderately toward them. She walks with handler for a bit more before she is brought back inside, her leash is clipped and she returns to kennel without further issue. 11/12/25: Zeyta is standing at the front of the kennel soft body. She takes treats from handler through the bars and is easily leashed and removed from kennel. She is walked on the street where she is aloof, nose to the ground sniffing. She is not super responsive to handler when called to walk another direction and pressure is placed on the leash to get her to move away from the spot she is sniffing. When seeing another dog, she pulls hard, lowered body, moving towards the other dog. She is not responsive to handler and is pulled away. She is easily clipped and returned to kennel. 11/11/25: Zeyta is laying in the kennel when handlers approach. She stands with neutral body as handler unlocks the kennel. She is easily leashed and removed from kennel. Zeyta is walked in the yard where she explores her surroundings. Handler calls her and she sits and waits for treats. She jumps onto second handler paws on torso rapidly wagging tail. She is lured down with a treat. As she walks around the perimeter of the yard she sniffs the ground. She is easily clipped and returned to a bottom kennel. 11/10/25: Zeyta is at the front of his kennel with a neutral body, handler calls his name in a soft voice and he would become soft bodied with a tail wag. He is easily carried and removed from his top kennel, which he is then taken out for a street walk. Zeyta would walk ahead of the handler, with minimal pulling on a loose leash. He would remain aloof and neutral bodied throughout the walk, not reacting towards any passing stimuli. He is then brought to the assessment room where he would remain neutral bodied and allows collaring. After the assessment, the handler moved a box and Zeyta began to air snap and bark towards the handler. He is then returned back to his kennel with no further issues.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Zeyta so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to a low threshold for arousal we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.
Potential challenges: : Low threshold for arousal
Potential challenges comments:: Arousal: Zeyda has been obsvered to have a very low threshold for arousal. During her assessment she was obsvered to begin growling, vocalizing, and lunging at the handler. The handler had to straight arm her a few times for her to stop. She was also obsvered to lunge towards the handler anther time while they were standing still. Positive reinforcement training should be used to teach DOG to remain calm during arousing situations. If they begin to escalate, people should pause the interaction, and create distance from the trigger. Pattern games such as 1-2-3 treat and the cue “mat” can be used to reinforce calm behaviors. Please see handout on Arousal.
