Hello, my name is Shadow. My animal id is #58942. I am a male black dog at the . The shelter thinks I am about 6 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/2/2019, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.

Shadow is at risk, new hope only determination, for behavioral reasons. Shadow has exhibited fearful/aggressing behavior while at the care center and escalates quickly while allowing for only minimal handling. Shadow would be best suited for placement with an experienced rescue partner that can provide the necessary behavior modification. Medically, Shadow appears healthy.

Upon intake, Shadow had a loose body and approached me and sniffed my hand. Shadow remained loose bodied as I collared him and took a picture. Shadow was walked to his kennel by his owner and became a bit tense when in front of the kennel. Shadow eventually went in when his owner placed him inside.

How is this dog around children?: Shadow had previously interacted with a 3 year old child. Shadow is described as being friendly with the child and will allow to be pet.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Shadow previously lived with a 7 year old dog for 7 years who recently passed away. Shadow was described as being bonded with the other dog. During his walks, Shadow will pull towards other dogs during walks and may growl.
How is this dog around cats?: Shadow has never interacted with cats.
Resource guarding:: Shadow will growl if his food or bowl is touched while he is eating. Shadow will play tug if his toy is taken away from him. Shadow will growl and show teeth if a bone is taken away from him.

For a New Family to Know: Shadow is a friendly, affectionate, playful and confident dog. When at home, Shadow will follow you around and likes to be in the same room as you. Shadow was kept mostly outdoors and had her own dog house. Shadow would let inside the house during cold nights. Shadow was fed Purina Once dry dog food once a day. Shadow is house trained and will go out in the yard. Shadow has never been crate trained. Shadow was taken out for long walks on the leash 2-3 times a week. Shadow pulls hard on the leash. Shadow has never been walked off the leash. Shadow knows commands such a sit, come, and stay.

Summary:: In the assessment room, the assessor sat down with Shadow on leash. He jumps up on the assessor, growling. When he was being returned to his kennel, he began to lunge and snap at handler and a pole was used to return him to his kennel. For this reason, a handling assessment was not preformed.
