Summary:: 8/16: Blue is in the yard when a M LMB approaches the gate. Blue has a stiff body while wagging his tail. He lets out a quick growl and two hard barks and the other LMB is walked away. 8/20: Blue approaches the gate to greet F LMB dog. He lowers his head they greet nose to nose and his tail wags with a soft body. He is bouncy as he walks away. 

Summary (1):: Blue is a social and affectionate dog who spent most of his time where people are. He loves bath time and water. On leash, he has a rating of 3, with mild to moderate pulling, and is walked 3–4 times per day for about 5 minutes each time. Blue is crate trained, does well in the crate. He can stay in the crate for up to 8 hours, although the type of crate is unknown. He knows the cues “sit” and “lay down.” His previous owner’s favorite thing about him was that he is friendly. Blue’s favorite activity/toy/food is big bones.

Summary (6):: 9/3 Blue is at the front of his kennel and is easily roped. Blue is taken for a brief walk where he pulls a mild amount and walks with a soft body. After a brief walk Blue pulls to go to a yard. Int he yard Blue is jumpy and exuberant as staff puts a drag leash on him before calming down and accepting pets. Blue is soft in the yard and wanders briefly. When a volunteer passes the yad Blue alert barks until they are out of sight. Blue eventually waits by the gate and begins barking to go in, after a moment he lays down by the gate. Blue is easily returned to his kennel. 8/31: Blue is standing on his water bowl, barking on approach. He is easily leashed and pulls outside. He is brought into the yard and pulls hard to the back to relieve himself. He then goes straight to the gate, whining and jumping up seeking exit. Handler decides to bring him on a walk. He walks nicely but will turn back to the care center, seemingly wanting to return to kennel. Handler allows him to lead her back and they wait in meet and greet until his kennel is ready. 8.21 Upon approach Blue is standing up in his kennel. When staff goes to leash Blue, he moves his head away and moves to the back of the kennel. Staff tosses some soft treats in his direction. Blue approaches the treat and eats it. when staff tries to leash him again, he avoids it. After throwing another soft treat closer to the entrance of the kennel, staff was able to slowly put the leash around Blue. Once leashed he walked out of his kennel and was taken on a walk. He walked at a good pace, leaving some slack on the leash. He was easily returned back to the building where he was put in his kennel, and the leash was taken off with no issue.

Summary (7):: 8.19 Blue is lying down at the back of his kennel when staff approaches. Blue moves back as staff approaches. Once leashed Blue is walked to a yard and put on a drag leash. Blue wanders the yard briefly before approaching staff and accepting gentle pets. Blue backs their butt into staff or turns around and rest their head on staffs lap accepting pets. Blue's leash is easily clipped ad he is easily returned to his kennel. 8/16 Blue is lying down at the front of his kennel when staff approaches. When staff unlocks the door he stands up and walks to the back of his kennel, and lays down shaking and letting out low growls. Staff lasso's his head after a few attempts from afar and once the loop is around his neck Blue stands up and walks out of the kennel with handler ignoring other dogs. Blue walks while sniffing a few spots but never stopping up and down the block. Blue is brought to the yard and kept on leash while walking around the yard and then standing by the gate. A volunteer brings another male large mixed breed dog to greet him at the gate and Blue has a stiff body while wagging his tail. He lets out a quick growl and two hard barks and the other large mixed breed dog is pulled away. Blue has an open mouth afterwards and loosens up a bit. Blue is brought to the door clipped, tolerates a head pat and is easily returned to his kennel. 8.13 Blue is lying down in his kennel when approached, he is fearful with a low body and backs away, occasionally giving some low growls as staff attempts to leash him. Once leashed, Blue is easily walked out of the kennel and taken for a walk. During the walk Blue has a neutral body and pulls hard on the leash. He ignores people passed. Blue allows for the leash to be clipped and is easily returned to his kennel.

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Blue will growl when staff attempt to remove him from kennel. He gives clear warnings when he is uncomfortable and does seem to choose to avoid or retreat when given the opportunity, but if prevented from moving away there is a potential to escalate to higher-level warning behaviors and possible fear-based aggression. It is important to move slowly with Blue, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow him to initiate interactions with new people. He should never be forced to greet or to interact if she is not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful Potential for Defensive Aggression. Anxiety: Blue avoids leaving his kennel at times. If Blue displays anxious behavior in his future home, we recommend puzzle toys, long walks, and giving him other things to focus on to alleviate his anxiety.
