Marie was missing a nail, and the resident cat had a scratch Litter box training: Energy level/descriptors: High energy level Other notes: Marie is described as friendly, a lap cat, prefers contact on their own terms. They spend their time in the bedroom, at the window and were both outdoors and indoors. They enjoy chasing, pouncing on toys and chase bugs or moths. They enjoy interactive playtime more than twice a day. They also enjoy rough rope and, carpet/fabric. Marie is sweet, enjoy good food, and she instantly warms up to you. When being petted, she enjoys the lower half of her body. They enjoy both wet and dry food: Fancy Feast. Marie is reported to hide in fear and nip/swats when pet for too long. Trims their nails: Never done Brushes their coat: Unbothered Picks up or holds them: Struggles or squirms Places them in a carrier: Unbothered Upon intake, the cat allowed handling and walked into den on their own. ~~~ Marie was brought in with limited information on her behavior history in a home environment. Marie lived with other cats in her previous home.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 6/12/26 Vol. On top of box in crouch, eyes round. Put in treat bowl, she looked down. Approached with hard treats on tool - she cringed back, ears turned and started to lift paw Let tool rest, dropped treats and removed. She immediately came forward to eat treats. After a few moments, decided to come down to treat bowl, not allowing any touches when eating and pulling back if anyone walked into room past cage. She came right back to bowl when clear. Let her eat, sweet talked and ended interaction. 6/14/26 Vol. Crouched on top of den at the back of the kennel. Briefly investigated a cup of Temptations but didn't eat any. Backed away from the scratcher tool and raised a paw as if to swat, so did not push it further. 6/16/26 Vol. She had just moved up from Holding when I began our interaction and was just getting used to her new surroundings. Tried to give her some Squeeze-ups on the clicker but she backed away and hissed. After some sweet talking, got a few slow blinks. Then she curled up and went to sleep and I ended the interaction. 6/21/26 Vol. Marie was fearful. She was curled up in the top cubby. When I opened the cubby door, she backed up against the back wall, in crouch with her tail up along the side of her body. I talked to her for a few seconds, and she removed herself by going down into the kennel and sitting against the back. 06/23/26 FB47 Marie was asleep in the cubby, and when spoken to, she woke up and stared at me. I offered her some treats, and she immediately hissed and then went back to sleep. I left treats behind for her. 6/23/26 Vol. She had just moved up from Holding when I began our interaction and was just getting used to her new surroundings. Tried to give her some Squeeze-ups on the clicker but she backed away and hissed. After some sweet talking, got a few slow blinks. Then she curled up and went to sleep and I ended the interaction. 6/24/26 Vol. Marie was sitting at back of cubby grooming herself. Her eyes and ears were neutral. When offered treats on scratcher tool, she pressed herself into the back corner and looked away nervously. She came out of cubby to sniff at a catnip mouse and began to play with the mouse on her own, tossing it all around her kennel. She played by herself for several minutes but was not receptive to attempts to interact. 6/25/26 FB09 Marie was crouched in her den with neutral eyes and her tail wrapped around her legs. She cautiously approached to sniff the treats offered to her before licking them up. When the handler began petting her, she flinched back and avoided contact, only coming forward to eat. 6/26/26 Enjoys toys, batting around and ate offered treats. Still distant with contact but tolerates human presence. CONTINUED IN GAN

Recommendations comments:: Marie has been shy and avoidant during her stay at the care center and may be intimidated by young children. No children under age 13, respectful older children only. Counselor discretion. There is a scratch incident that occurred with another cat while on a trial adoption. The client was not present. When the client arrived in the home at around 9:30pm. The client saw blood on the floor of the apartment, the resident cat, was on top of the fridge and Marie was in the bathroom hiding. When the TA went to assess the situation, he saw that there was a scratch around the spot close to the resident cat's right eye and right ear, that was bleeding. Marie was missing a nail on one of her back paws as well. Upon intake, the cat did not allow me to assess the paw and identify or see the missing nail. The client self-treated Marie's wound at home and as for the resident cat, she did not allow for him to fully treat her wound, but it was reported to be healing on its own. Due to the described behaviors, we recommend Marie goes to a home with no other cats OR into a multi-cat home with cat parents experienced with introducing new cats slowly and gradually over a long period of time.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 6/8/26 Marie is laying in her den, curled up at the back with dilated pupils and a tense body. When the kennel door is opened, she picks her head up and hisses at the assessor. She is offered a squeeze up on the scratcher tool and spoken to softly and she leans forward to sniff at the treat before pulling her head back, not eating it. When petting is attempted with the scratcher tool, Marie leans away, hisses, and turns her body around to avoid contact. Interaction is ended to reduce stress. 7/29/26 Marie is at the front of the kennel, eating her dry food as the assessor approaches. When the kennel door is opened, she tenses, looking up at the assessor with wide eyes and fleeing into the den as the kennel door is opened. When the den cover is lifted and she is softly spoken to, Marie backs up further into the den and begins low growling. She is tolerant of all petting with the scratcher tool but flinches, leans away, raises a paw, and hisses as she is pet. 8/30/26 Marie was lying on top of her den and perked up when the handler approached. She scanned the room with wide eyes before retreating into her den. She sniffed the treats offered her but showed no further interest. She avoided all physical contact and moved to the back of her den, watching the handler's tool intently. She began low growling and the interaction was ended to reduce FAS. Marie tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. She may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to her new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, she may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced.
