Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 9/15/26: Cookie Butter is introduced to a novel intact female and is loose and wiggly at the gate with mid level wags. He is let into the yard and engages in mutual sniffing, then begins play bowing and bouncing. He leaps on the other dog while muzzle punching their head with a closed mouth. He continues leaping on the other dog and pushing/tackling while wrapping his legs around the other dog's neck. The other dog gives a vocal correction and Cookie Butter does not react back but pulls strongly towards the other dog as they are separated, heavily panting. He whines and high pitch barks, continuing to pull strongly towards the other dog. The two reapproach and Cookie Butter stands on his hind legs pulling towards her, the other dog immediately gives a correction and the meet is ended.

Summary (6):: 10/17/26 [midday]: It was reported that Cookie Butter started circling around in the driveway and started jumping and trashing on the leash. Cookie Butter began to vocalize and screech beginning to alligator roll. Handler wasn't able to redirect this behavior and had to bring him back right away. Second handler came along to assist and was holding the front part of the leash. Cookie Butter was muscled back into the kennel but didn't give further issues during return. 10/16/26: Cookie Cutter is at the front of his kennel with a neutral body and slow wagging tail. He is easily leashed and pulled from kennel. During his walk Cookie would sometimes get the zoomies and he would run to the end of the lead in one direction and then quickly turnaround and run to the end of the lead in another direction. He would do this when his arousal level would go up and he would choose this method to help self regulate. Cookie is returned to his kennel at the end of his walk with no issue. 10/9/26: Cookie Butter is at the front of his kennel with a neutral body: he is easily leashed and brought out the elevator. During the elevator ride, Cookie sits in front of the handler and sniffs them; he then stares at the handler with widen eyes. He stops when the elevator opens up. Cookie relieves himself. As the handler speaks to another handler with a dog, Cookie begins to exuberantly run and spin around. after a couple spins, he stops and barks and attempts to pull towards the dog, but the handler has him on a shorten leash. He continues to spin again and then pull towards the dog, but the handler walks him across the street. Cookie walks with significant leash pressure; after he relieves himself, the handler stops to clean after him. Cookie begins to exuberantly spin around again. He then runs back and forth (zoomies) and attempts to jump on the handler in his aroused state, but the handler straight arms the leash. Cookie continues the rest of his walk with significant leash tension, but eases up when walking back. During the elevator ride, he sniffs a bowl that a familiar handler is holding, but shows no interest in them. Cookie is returned to his kennel.

Summary (7):: 10/2/26: Cookie Butter is at the front of his kennel with a neutral body; he begins to drool. He is easily leashed and brought out the room. Before crossing the street, Cookie jumps up to the handler, close enough to their face. Cookie walks ahead with mild, then moderate leash tension and no reactivity to dogs or people; Cookie stares at a dog with a neutral body, but disengages and exuberantly moves away when the handler uses their squeaker. He also looks back at the handler a few times, as well as sniffs them. Cookie is brought inside for his assessment (see notes); afterwards, he is returned to his kennel afterwards. 9/29/26 - Cookie Butter is at the front of the kennel with neutral body, easily leashed and brought through the building to exit for his walk with no issues and no reactivity to staff and near dogs. Outside he pulls mildly and is responsive to treats and verbal cues, he is also tolerant to petting by handler during his walk but does no solicit. His entire walk he spent interested in sniffing and walking with no issues, returning to kennel was easy and with no issues. 9/18/26: Cookie Butter is at the front of is kennel with a neutral body; he is easily leashed and brought out the room. Cookie sees dogs on the street, but easily disengages when the handler calls his name. Cookie walks with mild leash tension and no reactivity to dogs or people. He is responsive to when the handler speaks to him softly. Cookie is brought inside for his assessment, however, it's ended early due to him fixating on the handler; he sniffs and licks their elbow and looks at them with a stiff body and whale eyes. He is redirected by the other handlers with treats, but Cookie remains fixate on the handler and begins to jump towards them, even as they stand up. The handler quickly returns Cookie to his kennel.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Cookie Butter so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Recommend no dog parks,Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to Cookie butters low threshold for arousal we recommend an adult only household. Recommend No Dog Parks: Due to the concerning behaviors that Cookie Butter has shown during playgroup (see DOG-DOG SUMMARY), we feel that he should not visit dog parks. The Behavior Department recommends that he be socialized in a more controlled setting until his behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. Reward-based, force-free training can be utilized to help Cookie Butter associate dogs with things he enjoys like toys or treats. Place with a New Hope Partner: Due to Cookie Butter's poor impulse control and low threshold for arousal we recommend placement with a new hope partner.

Potential challenges: : Basic manners/poor impulse control,Low threshold for arousal

Potential challenges comments:: Basic Manners/Poor Impulse Control: Cookie Butter has been observed to be highly exuberant and has difficulty controlling his impulses at times, particularly when jumping on handlers. it is recommended that default behaviors such as "Leave it", "Sit/Stay", "Down" are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. Please see handout on Basic Manners and Poor Impulse Control. Low threshold for arousal: Cookie Butter was observed to fixate onto a handler after being spoken softly to, he licks their elbow and looks at them with a stiff body and whale eyes and is unable to be redirected off of the handler. Positive reinforcement training should be used to teach Cookie Butter to remain calm during arousing situations. If they begin to escalate, people should pause the interaction, and create distance from the trigger. Pattern games such as 1-2-3 treat and the cue “mat” can be used to reinforce calm behaviors. Please see handout on Arousal.
