Thistle is on the at-risk list due to behavior. She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. Medically, Thistle has dental disease.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers. What my friends at ACC say about me: I am looking for a home with a patient person. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. A volunteer writes: Before we talk about Thistle now, let's look at Thistle before. Except that we don't know very much about her - her likes and dislikes, how she is in a home, what she wants for the future. But we can make some educated guesses about some of these. For example, we know Thistle doesn't like the Care Center. She's particularly frightened and she's a bit on his own. We're here, of course, but I don't know if that brings her any comfort at the moment. Thistle's fear in the shelter doesn't necessarily endear her to potential families as her responses in the shelter indicate a very unhappy kitty. She was found by an apartment door, which is tough and she was feeling unhappy there as well. A brighter future awaits but Thistle will need time to figure things out and a patient family to help guide her along the way.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 10/18/24 FB26 Hisses from within the den after lifting up den cover for a visual. Fearful upon approach. She allows petting along the head and body with the scratcher tool through the side portal door. Lip flicks and hisses throughout the interaction. Remains tense in place. Left alone to reduce stress.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Laid back,Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Bold,Curious,Timid,Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period,Adult cat socialization
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Taken on 9/9/24: Thistle was in the den with large pupils curled up and ignored treats, sniffing slightly, and as the assessor reached in the den to offer treats off his hand she hissed and attempted to bite, barely missing the assessor as he pulled away. Retest on 10/9/24: Thistle was inside the den upon approach. Alert with eyes wide, scanning the room when opening the door. Ears erect and forward. She was curious watching from afar. Thistle slowly leans forward to sniff the scratcher tool but withdraws and remains a distant throughout the assessment. Ignores offered treats. Thistle is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely stressed/fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
