Summary:: When the handler approaches Queen Bee she is at the back of the kennel. Queen shows whale eye and retreats to the back of the kennel when the leash is presented. When the handler attempts to lasso her, Queen escalates to growling and lifts her lip. Due to the high levels of fear, stress, and anxiety displayed. Queen is not a candidate to receive a handling assessment at this time.

Summary:: Due to entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 7/28/26: Queen Bee is introduced to a novel neutered male and is aloof, sniffing around the yard. She keeps at a distance and looks at the dog briefly while standing behind her handler, then walks away and does not approach the fence.

Summary (6):: 08/05/26: Queen Bee is at the center of her kennel laying down as handler approaches. She stands and approaches handler, sniffs a treat that is offered to her but does not accept it and moves away when the leash approaches before she is leashed and brought to the street for her walk. Outside she walks slowly and does not react to dogs she sees outside, Bee stops to sniff and relieves herself shortly after reaching the street. She passes people without issue but begins slowing down quickly after the walk begins. She only walks for a bit before beginning to stop and turning back toward the care centers. She is walked for a bit more before being brought back inside, she returns to kennel and interaction is ended shortly after.

Summary (7):: 08/02/26: Queen Bee was lying on her bed at back of kennel and came forward when kennel door was unlocked. She was easily leashed and taken for a street walk. While on walk Queen Bee maintained a neutral body and walked slightly ahead of handler with light leash pressure. She accepted treats with a soft mouth and accepted pets on her head, chest, back and sides. She was returned to kennel with no issue. 7/31/26: Queen Bee greets handler with a loose and wiggly body at front of kennel where she is easily leashed and taken for a street walk. She walks slightly ahead of handler with very mild leash pressure. She accepts pets on her head, chest and back. She takes treats with a soft mouth when offered. She is returned to kennel with no issue. 7/30/26: Queen Bee slowly approaches the front with a soft body; she avoids the leash, but eventually allows herself to be leashed and brought out. On the street, Queen walks ahead with mild leash tension; she doesn't react to people or any loud sounds (due to construction). When the handler speaks to Queen in a soft voice, she turns around and approaches them; she sniffs their hand and allows pets. later on, as the handler speaks to Queen again in a baby voice, Queen because aroused and bites and holds onto the leash; she continues to walk with it in her moth. The handler calls her and drops treat in front; Queen lets go of the leash and eats the treat. Upon entry, the handler clips their leash and returns Queen Bee to her kennel. 7/29/26: Queen Bee is lying down at the back of her kennel when handler approaches. She gets up and comes closer with neutral body while handler is unlocking the kennel. Handler offers a treat and she sniffs it but ignores it. When handler attempts to put the leash on, she dodges the leash and retreats. Handler is able to lasso her after second try and she slowly exits the kennel and passing by other dogs with no reactivity. Queen Bee walks slowly in the hallways behind the handler all the way outside. When she gets to the street she immediately relieves herself and continues walking alongside with handler on the loose leash with no tension. Queen Bee doesn't react towards other dogs or people passerby. She is not engaged with handler remaining aloof throughout the walk. Her body is neutral with relaxed face. During return handler is able to pre-clip the leash and bring Queen Bee back into her kennel with ease.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Queen Bee so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to the fearful behavior observed while in care, we recommend an adult only home. We recommend placement with a New Hope rescue partner who is able to provide an experienced, adult-only foster home. Force-free, reward based training and/or consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended.

Potential challenges comments:: Fearful Defensive/ Leash Biting: Queen Bee has been observed to be highly fearful while in care. Noted to lip lift, snarl, growl, and bite the leash when handlers are attempting to leash her. It is important to move slowly with Queen Bee, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression.
