Frosty
Hello, my name is Frosty. My animal id is #215383. I am a male white dog at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 11/24/2024.
Frosty is on the at-risk list for medical concerns. Frosty is a senior dog with two tumors. The mass on his tail is large and ruptured. Frosty should have his masses removed and biopsied to determine if they are cancerous.

This pet needs emergency placement. Please click here to go to our emergency placement page for more information. Frosty is on the at-risk list for medical concerns. Frosty is a senior dog with two tumors. The mass on his tail is large and ruptured. Frosty should have his masses removed and biopsied to determine if they are cancerous. Frosty came to ACC as a stray - so we don't have any information on him prior to being in the shelter. During his stay here, he is easily leashed and walked out of kennel, takes treats gently when offered, and seems to know the command, "sit"! Frosty is an older dog who is looking for a quiet place to call his forever home!

Your newly adopted pet is overage between the ages of 8-10 and the staff veterinarians are issuing a PERMANENT waiver from the spay/neuter requirements of the City of NY. ACC does not have the facility to safely sterilize your pet with his/her current condition. However, your veterinarian will provide consultation on whether this procedure can or should be performed under their supervision. Follow up care at your regular veterinarian is recommended to ensure continued treatment and proper oversight of your pet's health. All costs for follow up care and subsequent surgery is at the expense of the adopter.

Summary:: Due to Frosty entering the facility as a stray, there is no prior dog-to-dog history recorded. 12/02/24 Frosty is introduced to a novel male dog while off leash at the care center. Due to Frosty's tail still healing up, only a gate greet is conducted. Frosty greets the novel male dog offering him a bounce displaying a loose frame. Frosty toe-taps followed by a play bow, marking in the novel male dogs direction. Frosty will remain self-present at the gate, salivating, maintaining a loose, wiggly frame. Frosty is returned to kennel. 11/27/24 Frosty is introduced to a novel female dog while off leash at the care center. Frosty greets the novel female dog with a neutral frame, scenting her before walking away. Frosty is aloof, ignoring the novel female dog, exploring away from the gate in which the novel female dog remained. Frosty maintains his distance before being returned to kennel.
Summary (7):: 12/2/24 Frosty is at the front of his kennel with a loose body as the handler approaches. He is easily leashed and walked to the play yards, stopping to sniff and urinate the entire way. After play group, Frosty is eager to catch up to the dog walking in front of him, pulling until they are out of sight. Frosty is returned to his kennel with no issues. 12/1/24: Frosty was at the front door of his kennel as handlers approached. He was jumping , dodging the leash, and trying to open the door on his own as the handler was leashing him. He was able to walk to the play yard with no issues. He showed interest when greeting the other dog in play group with a loose wagging tail and multiple low body bows. He was able to go back to his kennel with no issues. 11/29/24: Frosty is at the front of the kennel door when approached, and is eaisly leashed and walks out to the yard for a dog-dog interaction. (See dog-dog summary). Frosty does not pull at all on leash, is social with handlers and with the dog during the interaction. Due to Frosty's wounds, he was put back into kennel shortly after where he entered with no issue. 11/26/24: Frosty is lying at the front of kennel with a soft body as handler approaches. He is leashed with ease and walks to the Canine Behavior Office. Due to his tail wound, an assessment is not completed at this time. ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Frosty so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: Level 1
Potential challenges: : Anxiety
Potential challenges comments:: Anxiety: Frosty appears a bit anxious during his assessment. We recommend long walks and puzzle toys to help alleviate his anxiety. See handout on Generalized Anxiety.
