Animal Profile

Tangi

Hello, my name is Tangi. My animal id is #223639. I am a desexed male ginger tabby cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 14 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 4/14/2025, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.

Tangi is on the at-risk list for medical reasons - Tangi is a geriatric cat with glaucoma, dental disease, and suspected kidney disease. Urinalysis is pending. Tangi will need an enucleation and further geriatric vet care with placement. In shelter, Tangi has shown some signs of fear and stress - but has allowed handling with a slow and soft approach.

ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued

VOCAL:: Quiet

CHARACTER TYPE: : Timid,Independent

POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful

Potential challenges comments:: Please see behavior flyer for more information.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3

RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Tangi was lying in the front of his kennel as the assessor approached, body and face tense with pupils dilated. Tangi made eye contact with wide eyes when spoken to and he remained low and tense as the kennel door opened. Tangi allowed petting along his head and body while tilting his ears and slowly turning his head to watch the assessor's hand as it passed along his back. Pick up was not attempted at this time to reduce stress. Tangi tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter and may be intimidated by small children. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, adult only home.
