Chiquita Bonita
Hello, my name is Chiquita Bonita . My animal id is #247201. I am a desexed female gray cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 2/9/2026.
Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.
Pre-Screener FormChiquita Bonita is on the at-risk list due to behavior.She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. Due to her stress levels, it is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with helping a fearful cat adjust to strangers and new environments.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

Details on my behavior are...
Behavior Condition: 4. Orange
Upon intake Mellow Yellow was nervous but calm with staff. He allowed all handing.
KNOWN HISTORY:: Chiquita Bonita was brought in as a stray, there is no known information on their behavior history in a home environment. Upon intake Chiquita Bonita was nervous but calm with staff. He allowed all handing.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Subdued
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Shy ,Timid,Skittish,Independent
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Fearful,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: During her assessment, Chiquita Bonita displayed a very high level of FAS and as the assessor attempted to make contact with the scratcher tool, she hissed and escalated to swatting with both hands as she stood on her back feet.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : New Hope Only
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to the behavior seen in shelter and needing a longer time to warm up, the behavior team feels Chiquita Bonita would do best in an adult-only home where they would be able to acclimate in a calm environment.
BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: On approach, Chiquita Bonita was sitting loafed at the back of the cage with her eyes wide and dilated, a tense face and body, and ears tilted. She hisses multiple times as the assessor offers the scratcher tool out but tolerates one touch on her head. She then escalates to raising her arms and swatting. She begins to back away with a low and hunched body, before standing on her back feet and swatting at the scratcher tool with both front arms. Pick up is not attempted due to behavior and high level of FAS. Chiquita Bonita is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She has tried to swat, is extremely fearful in the shelter environment, and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. The behavior department feels that placement with a New Hope Partner is the best option at this time.
