Mizuky
Hello, my name is Mizuky. My animal id is #249984. I am a desexed female torbie cat at the Queens Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 months 1 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a agency on 3/18/2026.
Mizuky is on the At Risk list due to behavior. She has a bite/scratch history and continues signs of overstimulation during interactions. She is extremely intelligent and high energy, and needs to expend energy constructively with interactive play sessions 3-4X/day. In addition to playtime, this cat would also benefit from mental exercise from activities such as puzzle toys/games, lick mats, or clicker training. Without providing activity for her mind and body, the cat may react with rough play, potentially resulting in bite/scratch incidents. It is in her best interest to move out of the kennel environment and into a stable home as quickly as possible. She would do best in a home with adopters who are willing to give her plenty of time and space to adjust, and who have experience with feline body language, overstimulation, rough play, and who have the time to invest in managing these behaviors on a consistent basis to avoid further bite/scratch incidents.
Let's get to know each other a bit more...

What my friends at ACC say about me: I love to be loved, but on my own terms! Let's brush up on some feline body language together! Mizuki is sitting at the front of kennel pawing at the door. When the kennel is opened, she greets the assessor with a high question mark tail and tries to head bunt her way out. Mizuki is distracted with dry treats. Mizuki then sniffs the assessor's hand and leans in hard for cheek rubs. She allows all petting. When pet along body her tail begins to swish moderately. Mizuki is slightly tense during pick up, but after being set down, comes forward to solicit more cheek pets. When the kennel is closed, she remains sitting at the front, looking at the assessor with soft almond eyes. Due to prior owner history (see separate notes) and a bite/scratch history we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced cat parent home familiar with overstimulation.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 3/23/26 FB61 Lying in front of kennel, ears forward, body and face tense and pupils dilated. She makes eye contact when spoken to and she head-butts the kennel door. She tolerates gentle petting on the head with the scratcher tool and I reward her with treats and catnip. Appeared wary but curious today - did well. 3/26/26 FB61 In front of kennel upon approach, body and face relaxed with her ears forward and her pupils dilated. She begins rolling back and forth when spoken to and she steps into her cubby immediately as I open the cubby door and she sniffs my hand when offered. She rubs her mouth against my hand and she leans in for head and cheek scratchers with the scratcher tool. She also enjoys visual enrichment, toys and treats. 4/01/26 FB61 Sitting upright in front of kennel, body and face relaxed with her ears forward and her pupils normal! Her tail is curled lightly around her feet. She makes eye contact when spoken to and she stands up to greet me as I open the cubby door. She allows all petting with the assess-a-hand while leaning in and raising her tail into a question mark (?) curved type of shape. She enjoys her treats and her catnip toy. Did well today! 4/4/26 FB79 Mizuky is under her bedding when i opened the kennel door she slowly walked out with a high curled at the tip tail that is swaying back and forth. She leans in harshly when i held the tool out and head bunts for pets followed by falling onto her side as she enjoyed all pets on her body, belly, head and cheeks. Her tail continued to sway as she rolled around and when i removed the tool she stood with a neutral body and observed the room behind me with wide eyes. 4/5/26 Vol. Mizuky was walking back and forth in her kennel. I opened the door and gave her Squeeze Up and Temptations, which she ate. I petted her for a while until she seemed to heading towards becoming over stimulated. I closed the door almost completely and put just my hand inside to continue petting her. She put her paw out through the opening and tapped my hand. Her claws were not out but due to her history of scratching, I decided to use a pipe cleaner to play with her. I placed it through the ventilation hole and waved it around as she grabbed it playfully. 4/8/26 FB58 Mizuky is showing consistent signs of overstimulation at this time. They do not need socialization, these behaviors are likely to continue in a home environment and this is not an indication that this cat is under socialized. They are a cat who may be sensitive to physical or environmental stimuli. They will benefit from plenty of non-contact, interactive playtime and mental stimulation in their new home.
ACTIVITY LEVEL:: Lively
VOCAL:: Quiet
CHARACTER TYPE: : Social,Calm,Sweet,Affectionate,People oriented,Curious
POTENTIAL CHALLENGES:: Overstimulation,Rough play,Other,New home adjustment period
Potential challenges comments:: Mizuki displayed signs overstimulation in her behavior assessment, including a swishing tail. As a result of this observed behavior and her bite/scratch history (including reported rough play), we recommend adopters who are familiar with signs of behavioral arousal and agitation in cats, so that interactions can be ended before Mizuki becomes overstimulated. We also recommend fishing pole-type toys for play as they allow for interaction and vigorous, stimulating exercise while keeping human hands at a distance. Mizuki escalated during her veterinarian exam and bit the veterinarian. Potential adopters should be aware of her potential to escalate during medical handling.
BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: : Level 3
RECOMMENDATIONS:: Adult only home
Recommendations comments:: Due to bite/scratch history, the behavior team recommends an adult only home.

When the kennel is closed, she remains sitting at the front, looking at the assessor with soft almond eyes. 04/28/26 Upon approach, Mizuky is lying in a loaf position, paws tucked under, face and eyes are neutral, ears are forward and she is watching out into the room. As the kennel door opened, she came to the front and immediately nudged the assessor’s hand for pets. She enjoyed all petting head to tail for a few moments before showing signs of overstimulation. She was rubbing, leaning and rolling around exposing her belly. Her tail began to swoosh around rapidly so the assessor ceased petting. When she stood up the assessor resumed petting just her head. She was then picked up for a brief moment before being placed back down. She quickly whipped her head around and her eyes were wide. The assessor closed the kennel door for a moment before re-entering. Upon re-entering, Mazuky was soliciting for more pets, rubbing her head on the assessor’s hand. As the assessor attempted to pick her up again, she quickly turned her head around with wide eyes, as if she was going to bite. The assessor then ended the interaction before any further escalation. Due to prior owner history (see separate notes) and a bite/scratch history we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced cat parent home familiar with overstimulation.
