Teensy needs placement for medical reasons. He has inconsistently been eating in the shelter and now has become anorexic as he fights an upper respiratory infection. He has tolerated some handling, but is not tolerant of handling for more aggressive supportive care. Due to Teensy's size he is at risk for developing hepatic lipodosis the longer he remains anorexic in care. Teensy needs more care than we can provide.

He has inconsistently been eating in the shelter and now has become anorexic as he fights an upper respiratory infection. He has tolerated some handling, but is not tolerant of handling for more aggressive supportive care. Due to Teensy's size he is at risk for developing hepatic lipodosis the longer he remains anorexic in care. Teensy needs more care than we can provide. What my friends at ACC say about me: I have lived with cats in my previous home. I will flourish in a calm environment and a low-traffic home. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace. Teensy tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced. A volunteer writes: I'm so glad Teensy gave me a chance. He doesn't do this as freely as we'd hope and admittedly our friendship came in steps, but it's one I'm left thinking of long after meeting him. Teensy was brought to us with another cat when their guardian faced an emergency situation. He seems inclined to keep his cards close, but the last thing he wants to do is shut everyone out even if everything else says otherwise. Teensy's in a bottom corner condo, perhaps among the last places people look, he's a bit older, and he's a little too eager to air his grievances about the whole thing. I sat by him and he grumbled, I offered treats and he grumbled, I pretended to ignore him as I read my book and he grumbled, I extended the scratcher tool and he grumbled, but I waited because I recognized his curiosity. I took a little chance and extended my hand and Teensy very sweetly leaned into me (and grumbled) again and again. He softly traded his grumbles for cuddles and I sincerely hope he gets the chance he seems so determined not to ask for.

Behavior Assessment

KNOWN HISTORY:: Teensy was brought in with limited information on his behavior history in a home environment. Teensy lived with another cat in his previous home.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 6/21/26 FB09 Teensy was lying in the back of his kennel with dilated eyes and flattened ears. He squirmed slightly and began low growling when the door opened. He showed no interest in the treats offered to him. Despite his growling, he allows the handler to pet his by hand, remaining still. He began licking his lips and the interaction was ended to reduce FAS. FB73+FB09 When attempting pickup later in the day, Teensy continuously low growls, ears back and backing himself into a corner to avoid contact. A thick sheet is able to be placed over him but once we place our hands on him to attempt pickup, Teensy begins growling and vocalizing with high intensity before squirming and attempting to swat. Pickup attempt was not continued, and interaction was ended to reduce stress. 6/22/26 FB73 Teensy is laying on his side at the back of the kennel, eyes wide, pupils dilated, body tense and low growling as the handler approaches. When the kennel door is opened, his whiskers pull in closer to his face and his ears face towards the sides as he continues to low growl, backing away into a corner to avoid interaction. He is tolerant of head pets with the scratcher tool but does not engage and continues growling/remains tense. Teensy is offered a squeeze up on the tool and hesitantly sniffs at, giving it a few licks before stopping, tensing, backing away, and low growling again. Treat is left in the kennel, and the interaction is ended to reduce FAS. 6/24/26 FB09 Teensy was lying on his kuranda bed and looked at the handler with wide, dilated eyes. He sniffed the treats offered to him but showed no further interest and began quiet low growling. He started returning slow blinks at the handler, allowing some pets while still low growling. He continued returning slow blinks and began licking his lips. He allowed the handler to sit with him for a while, his body slightly untensing. 6/30/26 Vol. Lying on his Kuranda bed with slightly flattened ears and tail wrapped around body when I approached kennel. He ate two Squeeze-ups from clicker and some tuna. I was able to scratch his head with the tool though he low-growled the entire time. Had no interest in playing with any toys. Not as fearful as expected. 7/1/26 FB09 Teensy was lying on his kuranda bed with dilated eyes and low, forward ears. He watched the handler cautiously but slowly leaned forward to sniff the treats offered to him. He began licking up the treats, his body slowly relaxing. He allowed extensive head pets both during and after eating. CONTINUED IN GAN

Recommendations comments:: Teensy has been shy and fearful during his stay at the care center and may be intimidated by young children. No children under age 13, respectful older children only.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: 6/20/26 Teensy is laying facing sideways at the back of the kennel, low growling as the assessor approaches, eyes wide, pupils dilated, and body tense. When the kennel door is opened, he leans further against the back wall of the kennel to avoid contact. Teensy is tolerant of all petting with the scratcher tool but remains tense, twitches when pet down his back, and does not engage, low growling. He is tolerant of petting directly with the assessor's hands on his head and down his shoulders but remains tense and continues to low growl throughout the interaction. Pickup is not attempted due to observed behavior. 7/21/26 Teensy was in his kennel and when approached began a very low growl. He was gently removed from the kennel in order to reunite him with a littermate, and then technique used to remove him did not cause him to escalate. His littermate, when given the chance to interact in a room did not appreciate him, so we moved him to the free roaming room where he is doing well. When the assessor went to interact with him again, he allowed gentle petting on the head while "grumbling" slightly. Teensy tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children.
