Animal Profile

Asreil

Hello, my name is Asreil . My animal id is #250708. I am a male brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 4 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a agency on 3/28/2026.

Sorry, this pet is for new hope partners only.

Pre-Screener Form

Asreil is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Asreil arrived at the Care Center as an owner surrender with limited history. His previous reported that he has two bites in the home, however the details on these bites are very vague. Upon arrival Asreil warmed up quickly to staff. During his handling assessment Asreil was noted to be loose bodied, approach staff readily, and allow all contact. Unfortunately, Asreil has become difficult to handle safely due a decreasing threshold for arousal. Asreil has been reported to attempt to redirect on to handlers after intensely reacting towards a dog in a pop-up crate. When outside of the shelter environment Asreil remains social with staff and well mannered on leash. Medically, Asreil is apparently healthy.

Asreil was brought to the shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. He is a social, engaging dog who shows a friendly, wiggly demeanor with familiar handlers and enjoys interaction once comfortable. He has a playful side and has shown interest in other dogs with soft, inviting body language. My Ideal Home Asreil would do best in an adult-only home with an experienced adopter who can provide structure and clear boundaries. He will benefit from continued training and guidance, especially around managing resources and interactions with unfamiliar people. A calm, consistent environment will help him succeed. Good with Other Pets? Asreil has shown appropriate, playful interest in other dogs, including soft greetings and play bows. With slow introductions and supervision, he may do well with compatible canine companions. Good with Kids? Asreil is recommended for an adult-only home due to reported behavior in his previous home and the need for experienced handling. Things to Know Asreil is moderately active and walks with mild pulling on leash. He can show tension around valued items like toys, so structure and guidance in these situations will be important. He responds well to interaction and will benefit from continued positive reinforcement training. Fun Fact Asreil has a playful side that comes out with people he trusts, especially when there's a chance to engage and interact. With the right guidance, he has the potential to be a loyal and rewarding companion.

ENERGY LEVEL:: We have no history on Asreil so we cannot be certain of their behavior in a home environment. However, they will need daily mental and physical activity to stay engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in addition to physical exercise, to positively direct their energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: New Hope Only

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner

Recommendations comments:: No children (under 13): Due to the reported behavior in the home we recommend an adult only home. Place with a NH Partner: Asreil has been showing a decreasing threshold for arousal and has become difficult to handle safely due to risk of redirection. Asreil also has a bite history in his previous home, although the details are vague. We recommend placement with an experienced New Hope Partner that can carefully manage his potential triggers.

Potential challenges: : Resource guarding,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Low threshold for arousal,Bite history (human)

Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: While in care Asreil has been observed to become tense with a toy in his possession. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Asreil's mouth, and any time something is removed they should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. Please see handout on Resource Guarding. Fearful Defensive: Due to the reported defensive behaviors in his previous home we recommend a slow approach with Asriel. It is important to move slowly with Asreil, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow them to initiate interactions with new people. They should never be forced to greet or to interact if they are not comfortable and soliciting attention. Please see handout on Fearful and Defensive Aggression. Bite History (Human): Please see bite history above for more details. Please see handout on Bite History and Potential for Future Aggression.
