Rocky has a moderate upper respiratory infection and is eating but not well. He needs supportive care, robust nursing, and medication. A volunteer writes: Rocky Meowboa is a very handsome two year old Tuxedo in our care as a family member developed allergies to his dander. He is said to be friendly to all(he would not be a fan of other cats, though), quiet, well mannered, playful and liked to be carried. Coming to the care center has been a very rough change in Rocky's life. He is not home with his family, nothing is "happening", he is stuck in a kennel and whenever his door open, he does not recognize his familiar faces...Rocky Meowboa accepts petting, occasionally slow blinks and slightly leans into pets but his heart is somewhere else...A new home, a new owner will most likely make Rocky Meowboa feel better and slowly put him on the road to recover his livelihood. So, come to the Manhattan Care Center and adopt sweet Rocky! What my friends at ACC say about me: I lived with children in my previous home. I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe. I'll need daily interaction with you as I get used to my new life. I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.

S: moderate-severe URI 3d duration. Has been treated with SQF, cerenia, miratiazapine. O: audible congestion, ulceration of distal 1/4 of tongue, mild watery epiphora OU A: URI symptoms persist, anorexia. P: continue SQF, add 0.25 mLs B vit, add back magic mouthwash. Tomorrow re-weight and consider simbadol or zorbium again. Add to ARL.

ENRICHMENT NOTES:: 7/6/26 Vol. Rocky Meowboa is lying on his side behind the litter box in the back of the cubby. He makes soft eye contact with slightly dilated pupils, ears up, whiskers back. Uninterested in treats, and seems somewhat subdued, allowing head pets with the tool but tilted ears when pet along the body. He then rested his head against the side of the kennel and sighed. He then allowed pets by hand on his forehead and scritches on his ears, remaining calm (shy/scared). Coming along. 7/7/26 Vol. Curled up in back of cubby. Had no interest in eating Squeee-ups. Tried to engage him with the cat dancer or a catnip toy but had on interest in either. He did follow the laser with his eyes. Able to pet him by hand for several minutes. Needs more engagement. 7/9/26 FB09 Rocky Meowboa was lying crouched in the back of his kennel with dilated eyes. He sniffed the treats offered to him but showed no further interest, instead returning slow blinks at the handler before retreating into his cubby. He accepted extensive head pets from his cubby as his eyes softened. 7/10/26 FB09 Rocky Meowboa was lying in the back of his cubby with soft, neutral eyes and his tail wrapped around his legs. He sniffed the treats offered to him but showed no further interest in them, instead returning slow blinks with the handler. He accepted extensive petting on his head. 7/11/26 FB09 Rocky Meowboa was lying curled in the back of his cubby. He looked at the handler with soft, neutral eyes and started returning slow blinks. He showed no interest in the treats offered to him but accepted extensive petting along his head while squinting, his body remaining relaxed. 7/12/26 FB73 Rocky Meowboa is laying curled up at the back of the cubby, head up and facing the side of the kennel. He is spoken to softly and crunchy treats are offered but he does not respond to them. He is tolerant of all petting with the scratcher tool but he lip licks, remains very tense, and does not engage with the attention.

Potential challenges comments:: Rocky should be given a slow introduction to the home, one room at a time starting in a small room like a bathroom with food, litter and water. Interact with him in this room until he seems sufficiently confident that you feel you can introduce him to the next part of the home without running the risk that he will hide. Please speak to an adoption counselor for additional information on methods to help introduce your cat to the home.

BEHAVIOR SUMMARY:: Rocky was lying behind his litter box with dilated eyes and forward ears. He sniffed the treats offered to him but showed no further interest in them. He allowed pets along his head and body, remaining still. When adding pressure to his chest and side to simulate pick up, his body tensed but he remained calm. Rocky tolerates attention and petting but appears to be moderately fearful or stressed in the shelter. He will likely need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that he go to a home with some cat experience preferred or at least be well counseled in fearful cat behavior.
